Job Description

Purpose

Under direct supervision, provide basic support for an academic neuroscience research lab focused on understanding the neurobiological underpinnings of addiction and stress related disorders. Functions include maintenance, operation and inventory of equipment and supplies, with opportunity to expand into a project-based independent role as experience is gained. The individual in this position will support ongoing research involving a variety of behavioral assays and wet-lab techniques. Support research investigators as needed.

Primary Functions

  • Assist in the successful completion of several rodent behavioral assays, such as self-administration and chronic variable stress. Individuals in this role may be expected to perform these procedures independently as needed.
  • Assist in the execution of multiple wet-lab experiments, such as: immunohistochemistry, western blotting, polymerase chain reaction, and enzyme linked immunosorbent assays.
  • Provide clean and sterilized glassware for use in research lab.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of basic lab equipment such as autoclaving.
  • Make and supply media buffers and water to research areas as needed.
  • Assist in organizing and setup lab supplies and equipment for individual research investigators.
  • Assist with inventory and record of supplies.
  • Participate in meetings with principle investigator and research staff and evaluate/interpret the validity of data as needed.

Knowledge – Skills – Abilities

Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management.

Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.
