Overview: This position is open until filled.
Under the direction of the KPBS Director of Finance, the Accounting Manager has the responsibility of working with the SDSU and SDURF Financial Service teams in ensuring the accuracy of the financial reporting and the integrity of the KPBS financial systems.
This position is responsible for and skilled in technical accounting and in the General Ledger close process, and required to proactively communicate with all other departments within the organization. This position indirectly supervises three employees/student assistants in the KPBS Finance and Accounting department and assists with other corporate business functions.Responsibilities:Leadership and Supervision 20%

This position indirectly supervises three employees/student assistants in the KPBS Finance and Accounting department and assists with other corporate business functions.Responsibilities:Leadership and Supervision 20%
- Responsible for the indirect supervision of the following personnel – accounting administrative assistant and two/ three part-time student assistants.
- Define duties and requirements for staff, establishing organizational needs.
- Make recommendations for necessary changes/improvements in policies and procedures.
- Maintain positive relationships with management of other SDSU auxiliaries and campus programs. Coordinate workflow with these entities to deliver excellent customer service.
Accounts Receivable and Underwriting Support 30%
- Work with Corporate Development to prepare Account Executive annual goals and monitor results on a monthly/quarterly basis.
- Ensure proper accounting and database reporting for Underwriting contracts.
- Maintain and reconcile both billed and unbilled receivable G/L accounts.
- Be in-house expert on QuickBooks Online and ensure accuracy of this system.
- Perform credit checks on new client and those with aged receivables.
- Manage and assist as needed with collection efforts of outstanding invoices.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly commission/bonus statements.
SDSU Financial Operations 15%
- Prepare and manage State purchase requisitions managed by KPBS Finance and Accounting.
- Ensure timely and accurate submittal of vendor invoices and ensure payment terms are met.
- Monitor cash balances at SDSU and preparing monthly reimbursement check requests.
- Prepare monthly reconciliations and JV’s for the University reimbursed fund.
General Ledger, Financial Reporting and Audits 15%
- Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of monthly accounting closes.
- Provide direction and assistance to those involved in day-to-day processing and monitoring.
- Working closely with the DOFA, prepare audit schedules and coordinate the day-to-day activities under the annual financial audit and CPB regulatory reporting.
- Review, prepare and approve JV’s.
- Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
Fixed Assets 10%
- Maintain and ensuring proper accounting for fixed assets
- Prepare and reconcile depreciation schedules for the annual audit.
- Work with KPBS Directors and both the SDSURF and SDSU Inventory Coordinators on tagging and fixed asset submittals and disposals.
- This position may be requested to lead or assist with projects that require broad-based analytical skills and make resulting recommendations or provide information. Such projects often include collaborating with key university or SDSURF employees and the ability to work independently
Knowledge and Abilities
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices; financial record keeping, conducting audits, fund accounting; statistical and arithmetic presentation of data
- Knowledge of SDSURF policies, internal control procedures and established standard practices and guidelines to safeguard departmental assets and resources
- Knowledge of the accounting cycle pertaining to budgeting, accounting, reporting and auditing
- Knowledge of federal, state and private agency funding regulations
- Knowledge computer software programs (e.g., MS Office, Gmail, Word, Excel and Access) to facilitate accounting operations
- Ability to apply accounting principles and procedures to work assignments
- Ability to demonstrate strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to obtain resolution of negotiation issues
- Ability to perform basic mathematical computations using addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages and averages to solve problems
- Ability to contact basic research using databases, files, reference manuals and other sources to perform accounting functions
- Ability to serve as liaison between finance staff and audit firm by coordinating calls, meetings, completion and review of audit requests
- Ability to reconcile complex reports and financial data; prepare journal entries; resolve problems associated with incorrect entries
- Ability to learn and apply laws, rules, and procedures related to government accounting; interpret and follow instructions and policy guidelines; analyze financial and statistical data and draw sound conclusions
- Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information and issues
- Ability to work independently and exercise initiative and judgment in analyzing information and making decisions consistent with standard practice and established guidelines
- Ability to interact effectively with co-workers and serve as a liaison for the organizational unit

- Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting, business administration, finance or a closely related field OR a combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.
- Equivalent to five years of professional level accounting experience.
- Expert level in QuickBooks Online.
- Master’s degree.
- Experience with GASB and other Federal audit and reporting requirements.
