KITCHEN ASSISTANT
Position Description

You report to the Kitchen Manager and Head Cook and provide assistance in the kitchen to whatever capacity assigned to you.
POSITION AVAILABILITY
As the Kitchen Assistant, you will work an assigned shift of 10-12 hours on a typical day and additional hours when necessary.
You’ll reside in shared staff housing on the 650-acre Lake Valley Camp resident camp property in the rolling hills of the driftless region in Boscobel, WI.
BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
You will need to learn how to work efficiently with the food services team to provide fresh food on time for each meal; you are also responsible for the preparation and serving of evening snacks.
You must constantly be aware of the safety of participants at all times. This includes making sure participants follow food service procedures (coming in the correct door, etc.) and do not enter the food preparation or cooking areas of the kitchen. This includes holding staff and campers accountable for COVID food safety guidelines.
You will need to ensure that your work area and the tools you use are safe and sanitary for food preparation. In addition, you will need to follow guidelines set by the supervisors for proper hand washing.
You are responsible for food service inventory and may serve as a backup cook if needed.
As a Kitchen Assistant, you will be responsible for the cleaning and sanitization of the dining hall and surrounding spaces (including sanitizing surfaces, furniture, door handles, etc.)
You must communicate concerns to your supervisor and be willing to complete any other duty assigned by your supervisor.

CERTIFICATIONS
Servsafe certification (may be acquired through PEAK)
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School / GED required.
Knowledge of food preparation and serving, storage of food and dishwashing procedures is preferred.COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Our summer seasonal staff are paid on a bi-weekly basis and are classified as exempt, seasonal employees.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS
You must be physically and mentally able to meet the challenges of navigating and working in a remote, natural resident camp setting.
