Job Description

Valard is a full-service EPC+ utility contractor with almost four decades of experience, successfully completing projects across Canada.


Valard Construction is looking for multiple Powerline Technicians/Linemen with Transmission Experience in various locations throughout US.

Requirements

  • Duties
    • Erect and maintain steel, wood or concrete poles, towers and guy wires
    • Install, maintain, and repair overhead and underground power lines and cables, insulators, conductors, lightning arrestors, switches, transformers, street lighting and other associated equipment
    • Splice, solder and insulate conductors and related wiring to connect power distribution and transmission networks
    • Have knowledge and expertise in the areas of construction, maintenance, and repair of both distribution and transmission power systems, coupled with the ability to follow instructions and procedures
    • Opens and closes switches and installs grounding devices to lines and equipment. May climbs poles and/or ride in bucket to install or repair wires, arms, insulators or other hardware on poles. Install and repair underground facilities such as cable, transformers, potheads and pedestals.
    • Installs pole hardware and such auxiliary equipment as transformers, lightning arresters, switches, fuses and insulators, using hand tools and mechanical devices. May cover energized lines with rubber goods to facilitate safe handling of high-voltage lines without interrupting service.
    • Uses insulated poles (hot sticks) fitted with mechanically or hydraulically operated grasping and crimping tools and/or rubber gloves and sleeves to perform energized line work.
    • Knowledge of trade safety practices and procedures
    • Recognize, assess, and be able to deal with potentially hazardous situations in the work environment
    • Ability to read and understand the scope of construction prints provided.
    • Ability to instruct, mentor, and train junior personnel and apprentices in duties, safe work practices, care, and use of tools and equipment in a positive respectful manner.
    • The ability to work at heights on wood poles, steel towers, etc. in adverse weather conditions.
    Experience
    • Valid Journeyman certificate for Powerline Technician, state or red seal
    • Driver’s license, preference for License class ability to operate airbrake.

    • Good physical coordination, manual dexterity, lift 50lbs
    • Mechanical ability
    • Good hearing and color vision
    • Ability to work at heights and in varying extreme climates
    • Ability to travel and/or be on call
    Project information
    • Various unanticipated project locations across the US
    • Normal workday hours: 6 AM to 6 PM
    • Time and a half for over 40 hrs, weekends included
