TITLE: Journeyman Electric Lineman, Electric Power

LOCATION: Mission Valley Power, Pablo, MT.

SALARY: $45.63 per hour – (Union Scale)

CLOSING DATE: Thursday, January 7, 2021 @ 5:30 p.m.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) within the definition of the Mission Valley Power drug testing policy. The successful applicant, if not already employed by Mission Valley Power must pass a pre-hire drug test and also requires drug and alcohol testing as described.

DUTIES:

  • Load, haul, frame, erect and climb wood poles (also, steel and concrete poles with steps provided) for both transmission and distribution lines. Poles may be inserted into or along energized lines.
  • String, lay up, splice, sag, armor rod and tie in electrical conductors. Conditions frequently require performing this work with energized high voltage conductors located in the same pole.
  • Installs and operates airbreak and fused switches, transformers, oil circuit reclosers, sectionalizers, capacitor banks and other electric utility apparatus.
  • Installs and changes out poles, arms, insulators, transformers, under both hot and cold line conditions, for voltages ranging from 120 volts to 115,000 volts, using rubber gloving techniques, special hot sticks, aerial devices and other equipment when required.
  • Installs secondary service wires, makes connections to customer service facilities, both single and three phase, of various voltages. Installs and removes watthour meters, measures electrical characteristics and tests various devices with voltmeters, ohmmeters and underground system testing devices, radio interference detection equipment, along with ammeters, power factor meters and continuity meters.
  • Troubleshoots and corrects all types of service problems, including distribution line failures, transformer burn-outs on overloads, short circuits, broken wires, voltage problems, loose connections and other similar things which may effect continuity and quality of electric service to customers.
  • On occasion, may be required to assist in construction or maintenance or substations, including erection of steel towers, buswork, insulators, large heavy transformers, oil, circuit breakers, current and potential transformers, etc.
  • Required to have knowledge to operate various types of substation devices, including oil circuit breakers and reclosers, fused and airbreak switches, regulators, capacitor banks, etc., including older manual-controlled devices and newer electronic-controlled devices.
  • Installs underground high and low voltage conductors. Applies special splices, terminators and loadbreak elbows to high voltage underground cables. Operates underground distribution systems under both energized and de-energized conditions.
  • Shall be completely familiar with, and apply standard trade safety rules and regulations, and shall be capable of taking safe working clearance instructions and be able to comprehend all local safety policy applications.
  • Must be capable of operating digger-derrick trucks, aerial devices, backhoes and service trucks.
  • Will be required to carry paging device in regular turn to be called for emergency customer service and system outages during all hours and all days of the week.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (AS REFLECTED ON THE TRIBAL EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION):

1. Must possess a high school diploma or GED.

2. This position requires the operation of MVP vehicles. Applicant must possess a valid Montana State, Class A, Type II, commercial driver’s license as a minimum. (CDL from another State that is transferrable is also acceptable)

3. Applicant and tool weight cannot exceed 300 lbs. The combination of the body and tool weight cannot exceed the maximum weight limit of the buckets.

4. Must be recognized by the IBEW as a journeyman-lineman.

3. Copy of current valid driver’s license.

4. Must be 18 years of age.

5. Proof of enrollment from a federally recognized Tribe if other than CSKT.

6. If claiming veteran’s preference, a DD214 must be submitted.
