Analyzes, designs, installs, configures, maintains, troubleshoots, secures, usage monitoring and the development of specialized desktop and server systems used within the college. Performs systems security administration functions, monitoring and managing system resources, that includes CPU usage, disk usage, tape backup systems, performs systems backups and recovery procedures to the network infrastructure and application components. Performs a wide variety of evaluation, maintenance, installation and tasks to ensure the computer network performance meets the faculty and staff specifications. Provides direction, information, and recommendations regarding configurations and installations to the technicians. Keep current with network technologies, applicable laws and regulations.
- Provides computer support to the College of Engineering and Computing (CEC) staff on daily operations of CEC IT systems and networking. Operational tasks should be performed in an appropriate and timely way for systems and services include: planning, installation, monitor, repair, and upgrade on a variety of UNIX and Microsoft systems; and administration of typical services like file service, authentication, remote access, application serving, virtual machines, hosted services, databases, backups, and network routing.
- Implement, manage and monitor college mailing lists, ePO components and security infrastructure.
- Instructs users in the use of system and networking technology through seminars, documentation, and other educational methods.
- Performs other related duties as required or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
- Designs, develops, implements and maintains security applications in order to support the control systems and subsystems employed by the computing center. Installs/patches new versions of applications necessary for laboratory use. Programs and maintains scripts to automate administrative functions. Programs and/or integrates software for the development of research and instructional use.
- Maintains network infrastructure in full operating condition and performs emergency calls during system failure when necessary, as well as major system upgrades.
- Performs essential duties in any emergencies such as hurricanes, public health emergencies, and/or any other university emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification of a department administrator.
- Advises on the implementation and support of the computing center hardware and software architectures. Advises faculty and staff on purchases of computer and related equipment.
- Implements and monitors computing center rules and policies and recommends new and improved procedures to effectively manage the college Windows OS and UNIX infrastructure for both physical and virtual environments.
- Maintains a working knowledge of the emerging state of the art systems and networking technologies by reading journals, manufacturer literature, and other appropriate material. Attends conferences, workshops, and seminars which will be useful for skill assessment and improvement.
- Maintains system backup infrastructure for cross-platform environment and network health monitory systems.
- Maintains Citrix XeanApp servers and Novell infrastructure using e-Directory and Microsoft AD.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technology field and two (2) years of experience in the field; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
- Knowledge of programming languages, concepts, and practices, especially shell and scripting languages.
- Knowledge of modern networking equipment.
- Knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures for computer desktop and server support.
