This class is the second level in a six-level Procurement Series devoted to providing inventory and warehousing functions and professional procurement and contract administration services to the City. Incumbents provide skilled technical work and perform the most complex inventory and warehousing activities. Work includes oversight of inventory, supply, and/or warehouse staff. Incumbents supervise paraprofessional and support staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, discipline and termination procedures.
Provides customer service by assisting with the retrieval of parts, contacting the vendor for out-of-stock items and conducting research on relevant parts. Compiles and maintains records of quantity, type, and value of material, merchandise, or supplies stocked.
HIRING RANGE: $36,209.00 - $46,728.00 (Promotional Range may vary)
Essential Duties:
- Supervises staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, discipline and termination procedures.
- Provides technical assistance to customers with selecting parts, ordering out-of-stock items, and issuing parts.
- Counts material, merchandise, or supplies in stock and posts totals to inventory records.
- Compares inventories to office records or computes figures from records such as sales orders, production records, or purchase invoices to obtain current inventory.
- Verifies clerical computations against physical count of stock and adjusts errors in computation or count, or investigates and reports reasons for discrepancies.
- Compiles information on receipt or disbursement of material, equipment, merchandise, or supplies, and computes inventory balance, price, and cost.
- Prepares reports such as inventory balance, price lists, and shortages.
- Prepares list of depleted items and recommends survey of defective or unusable items.
- Stocks and issues materials or merchandise.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Depending on department, may directly supervise a Parts Clerk and/or Parts Technician. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED and three years of inventory and/or warehousing experience. Four years related experience highly desired.
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
Licensing/Certifications
Depending on assignment, some positions may require:
- Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.
- Forklift certification.
- Maintenance Technologist Certification preferred (or the ability to obtain one).
