Position:
The Interventionist will support all aspects of instructional services in literacy specifically designed for students. The Interventionist will collaborate with teachers to create support as a "team" approach ensuring that the students receive the support they need to master foundational literacy skills. The interventist will support student groups based on district data.
Job Goal:
To provide additional literacy intervention support to address significant numbers of students with the highest levels of need to provide targeted and individualized academic literacy intervention targeting phonics, phonemic awareness, and fluency.
Responsibilities:
- Pick up district issued computer in August 2022.
- Attend Induction Academy I for teachers new to D300: August 5th, August 8th, August 9th, and August 10th, 2022.
- Follow all policies and procedures of Community Unit School District 300 along with state and federal regulations pertaining to Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and IDEA.
- Provide data-driven direct instruction to students identified for literacy services within the general classroom setting.
- Helps teachers diagnose reading and writing strengths and weaknesses and match the skills with appropriate techniques and materials.
- Collaborate with teachers to identify the literacy needs of students, to set learning goals and targets, and to problem-solve with teachers to develop best practices for the continuous academic growth of students in literacy.
- Use identified needs to guide the learning process toward student mastery of Illinois Learning Standards for ELA.
- Uses a variety of instructional techniques and literacy materials consistent with Illinois Learning Standards for ELA and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Provide consultant/collaborative services to classroom teachers, model "best practices" and team-teach as appropriate to support individuals or groups of students in learning or transferring effective strategies.
- Provide and coordinate parent programs that support student achievement.
- Provide a classroom environment and research-based program of study that are conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
- Collaborate with appropriate personnel regarding students who may need specialized interventions and track their achievement data.
- Promote, monitor and maintain the integrity of interventions and data.
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competences through professional development activities.
- Attend district-level meetings.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, administrative guidelines, or specific program requirements.
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information.
- Attend team/parent meetings as required in order to provide input to teams regarding student academic strengths and weaknesses.
- Effectively communicate student progress to parents on a consistent basis.
- Participate in universal screening activities and assist with the analysis of the data to identify students in need of MTSS services.
- Provide data to the school teams and participate in decisions about student progress.
- Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities, as may be assigned by the supervisor and Director of Literacy.
Qualifications:
- Valid Illinois Teaching License. Preferred certification in middle school english language arts or reading specialist and special education
- Teaching experience preferred
- ESL Endorsement required
- Extensive knowledge of reading and writing programs and interventions
- Extensive knowledge of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)
- Thorough understanding of the developmental progression of children’s literacy skills
- Thorough understanding of Illinois Learning Standards for ELA
- Skill in collecting, interpreting, and communicating data to a variety of audiences
- Ability to work as a member of a team
- Possess excellent organizational skills
- Demonstrate knowledge in support and intervention strategies
- Ability to work collaboratively with other staff members
- Strong communication skills (oral and written)
