Job Description
Position Overview

Advanced level in the plant maintenance occupation requiring considerable knowledge of electronics as well as electrical and mechanical equipment maintenance, under general direction, maintains, repairs, replaces, modifies, and calibrates electrical and automation controls, electronic instrumentation, mechanical and process control equipment to ensure operational effectiveness and compliance with mandated standards.

Summary of Job Duties

Performs skilled work in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all electronic instruments and automatic process control equipment in water reclamation facilities, sewer lift stations, sewer equalization basin facilities, water booster stations, water storage facilities, and water pressure regulating stations. Plans, designs, programs, installs, and maintains Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Distributive Systems (DCS); Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems (SCADA), human machine interfaces (HMI) and related automation and control systems. Maintains Testing and Training PLC/radio to test out programs or communication issues. Acts as lead PLC programmer and troubleshooter on all projects. Updates PLC CPU hardware firmware. Provides PLC programming training to other employees. Install, maintain, repair and troubleshoot electrical and control systems including, but not limited to PLC’s, electric motors, motor controls, flow equipment, alarm and communication systems, conduits, cable and relays. Programs, installs, repairs, and expands telemetry system and integrates system with other hardware and software systems. Provide PLC, programming and electrical expertise including technical review for in-house modifications, additions, and major repairs. Use AutoCAD to provide electrical schematics to demonstrate how processes will work. Responsible for construction of SCADA/electrical control panels for in house projects. Works with SCADA manager for integration of all new instrumentation and control systems into SCADA, possessing a working understanding of SCADA tags, addressing and databases. Assist in the startup and troubleshooting of all new electrical, control and instrumentation systems. Installs and configures security systems including access control and video system. Maintains accurate records and updates shop drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams as changes are made; maintains an inventory of parts, materials, supplies, and equipment used in everyday tasks. Operation, installation, and calibration of online analyzers and instrumentation. Calibrates, troubleshoots, repairs, installs, and integrates various flow and measuring equipment and instrumentation system components which monitor parameters such as pH, conductivity, temperature, turbidity, chlorine, dissolved oxygen, flow rate, level, and water/air pressure. Performs electronic equipment setup, programming, calibrating, and troubleshooting of components such as variable frequency drives, control valves, pump controls, alarm systems, and level monitoring systems for wastewater Researches and assists with the design of new control systems; automates old systems. Performs manual labor tasks associated with maintenance and repair of the systems; installs equipment and components, builds panels and cabinets, pulls wires, removes and replaces parts, prepares the work site; and cleans up after work is completed.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

Completion of core course work toward an Associate’s Degree in electronics, computer science or process automation with course work in computer science, electronics or process control/instrumentation and two (2) years’ experience in preventative and reactive maintenance at a water / wastewater plant or related industrial facility and two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in maintenance of electronic equipment / systems, radio / microwave / fiber optic communication systems, instrumentation, sensors, PLCs, or automation equipment at a water /wastewater utility or related industrial facility.

Preferred a current Ohio EPA (OEPA) Class I Water Distribution or Wastewater Operator License.

Any combination of Education, training and/or experience in an amount equal to the Minimum Qualifications stated above may be considered.

Valid State of Ohio Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.

Seasonal Employees: Benefits include Sick Leave accrued at 4.6 hours for every eighty 80 hours in active
pay status. Seasonal employees scheduled to work 40 hours during their period of employment will accrue vacation in the same manner as regular full-time employees and can use their vacation after completion of twenty-six (26) bi-weekly pay periods in active pay status. Part-time Seasonal employees (scheduled to work less than 40 hours) do not accrue vacation.

Intermittent and Temporary Employees: Long-Term Sick Leave accrual is based on hours worked.
