SummaryThe University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts seeks a part-time candidate with an interest in video production and editing. This is a one year, term-limited position at 30 hours per week.
The Instructional Video Media Assistant supports the LSA Learning and Teaching Consultants, a unit of LSA Technology Services, performing video production and editing tasks. This position edits and composites new video content for academic courses; assists with video production including camera operation, lighting and sound; and attends pre-production meetings with patrons. In addition, the Assistant works directly with faculty and staff to answer basic questions about video editing, equipment related to video production, and provide individualized video editing training to LSA faculty and staff.
The Assistant will have the opportunity to work closely with members of the Instructional Video team to further their professional development. This position is well suited to a career pathway in video production.
Hours: 30 hours per week.
Supervision: The Assistant will report to Shawn Jackson, Instructional Video team lead
Location: The Instructional Video studio is in the Modern Languages Building.
Technology: Workstation, software, and access to cloud resources will be provided.
Responsibilities*- Editing new video content for courses and videos related to the mission of LSA Technology Services
- Assist team lead and videographer as part of video production team, by gathering, setting up, tearing down, and maintaining video production equipment. During productions filling needed roles as necessary such as camera operator, gaffer, and sound mixer.
- Participate in pre-production meetings both internal and with patrons to assist with the planning and creative direction of future productions.
- Assist faculty and staff with training and troubleshooting of video editing software and equipment.
- Other project work as necessary, for example creating tutorial or promotional video content.
Associates degree in video production or equivalent experience.
Fluency with Adobe Premiere Pro and Audition. Knowledge of other Adobe Creative Cloud applications is beneficial.
Knowledge of other audiovisual software such as iMovie, Final Cut Pro, Garageband, Camtasia as well as screen recording functionality of programs such as Quicktime and Powerpoint
Experience working with video production equipment such as using mirrorless DSLRs for videography and photography, RGB LED lighting, studio and field microphones, and tripods.
Candidates must possess strong organizational skills and be detail oriented; have the ability to undertake multiple tasks at the same time and be able to prioritize among those multiple projects. Maintaining a consistent video production workflow, from file management to version tracking, is vital to success in this position.
Candidates should have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with demonstrated ability to work enthusiastically and interact diplomatically with a diverse range of people. This position requires a candidate that can work well both independently as an editor and as part of a production team.
Candidates must also be able to demonstrate a track record of dependability, punctuality, and reliability in any prior work settings; be flexible in dealing with a changing environment; and be willing to learn new skills and take on new projects.
Desired Qualifications*A Bachelor’s degree in video production or film studies or equivalent experience.
Fluency with Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, and/or Character Animator.
Experience creating educational video content, documentaries, or explainer videos.
Experience with advanced video production equipment such as teleprompters, gimbals, steadicams, lightboards or learning glass, green screens, or drones.
Familiarity with Google and/or MS Office applications.
