GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for performing technical functions related to
personal computer applications development and hardware maintenance. Reports to the Business
Project Manager B.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Installs, administers, tests, maintains, and troubleshoots the department’s hardware and software;
responsible for resolution of problems with personal computers and related equipment; performs
routine preventive maintenance on computer peripheral devices and related equipment; maintains
inventory and recommends the acquisition of additional, replacement, and upgraded hardware and
software to meet the department’s data processing needs.

Integrates mainframe databases with PC applications with the assistance of Data Processing staff; and
uses query tools to access mainframe data using open database connectivity (ODBC).

Provides support to users on software packages by providing formal and informal training; and
installs new releases on existing computers; serves as the departmental consultant by evaluating and
recommending personal computer hardware and software and providing support to users on
supported software packages. Researches department operations, assesses and analyzes computer
needs and recommends software programs; and resolves technical questions by reading and
comprehending technical manuals.

May have limited responsibilities to the installation, maintenance, and administration of the
department local area network (LAN).

Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE

• Information Technology – Knowledge of computer systems and business applications.

Understanding of data processing principles and practices related to applications development
and programming. Knowledge of multiple computer languages and software applications.

• Research and Analysis – Thorough knowledge of research and analysis methods and techniques;

thorough knowledge of statistical analysis and forecasting techniques.

• Critical Thinking – Using logic and reasoning to understand, analyze, and evaluate complex

situations and research information to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative
solutions, conclusions or approaches.

REQUIRED ABILITIES

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or a related field and 5 years of related
experience in computer networking or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires a comprehensive background investigation to include a local, state and federal criminal
history check; sex offender registry and credit check.

A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Requires the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work.
• Some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10

pounds).
• Tasks may involve extended periods of time at keyboard or work station.

SENSORY REQUIREMENTS

• Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals.
• Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
  

ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURERS

Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such
as dirt, dust, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, or traffic hazards.
