Improvement Facilitators will provide support for schools in Pennsylvania’s Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) School Improvement initiative, a statewide
program that includes regional school improvement teams. Improvement Facilitators will engage school leaders and school-based teams in a continuous improvement process, including a
facilitated self-assessment process, prioritizing strengths and needs, and conducting a root cause analysis. Using this information, the Improvement Facilitators will support the school-based team as this information is used to develop, implement, and monitor an improvement plan that is based on evidence-based practices.
Improvement Facilitators work with LEAs to determine the support needed within the regional teams that will:

Project Staff Band 16 ($75,193 - $93,991) 260 days, 7.5 hours per day/ 5 days per week to include full-time benefits and PSERS.
Hired as a CCRES employee salary range of $91,353 - $114,192 not eligible for PSERS and includes minimum benefits
Duration of assignment is three years to include school years 2020 - 2021, 2021 - 2022, 2022 - 2023.

Improvement Facilitators work with LEAs to determine the support needed within the regional teams that will:
- Provide support to LEA’s and school-based teams of diverse, well-supported, and effective educators
- Gain buy-in/change
- Ask critical thinking questions
- Assist the state wide team in the development and facilitation of professional learning and conference sessions
- Collaborate with the statewide leadership team to develop and curate professional learning resources
- Capacity for a building, growth, and equity mindset
- Understand school improvement/school transformation
- Recognize that schools are connected to the communities they serve
- Meaningfully engage stakeholders in school improvement efforts
- Implement a results-oriented cycle of improvement
- Utilize evidence-based practices and policies
- Respond to the LEAs’ and schools’ highest-priority needs
- Support and embed stakeholder engagement
- Focus on using evidence-based approaches and continuous improvement
- Extend beyond supporting the planning process to supporting school-based teams as they implement their plan and monitor their implementation process
- Position LEAs and schools to network with each other during the process
- Support a school/system in crafting and implementing an action plan within a system in order to create an effective plan and provide support through implementation
- Result in better outcomes for students
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work collaboratively with school leaders, school-based teams, district leaders, and members of the regional team
- Facilitate a continuous improvement process with school-based teams. Tasks associated with this facilitation include reviewing the school’s mission, vision and values, reviewing data from the school’s Future Ready PA Index, and reviewing locally-relevant data aligned to indicators from the school’s Future Ready PA Index.
- Facilitate an evidence-based, objective self-assessment with school-based teams as they assess and prioritize needs. Tasks associated with this facilitated self-assessment may include conducting focus groups of students and educators, administering surveys of students, parents/guardians and educators, interviewing the principal, visiting classrooms, and attending team meetings. The facilitator will gather and compile data from these activities and share it with the school-based team. Using the PA Essential Practices for Schools, the Improvement Facilitator will facilitate the school-based team through a self-assessment, the prioritization of 2-4 practices, determination of root cause(s), and goal setting for each area of priority.
- Facilitate as the school-based teams in coordination with the Subject Matter Experts for the school to create a plan. Tasks associated with this facilitation include setting goals connecting prioritized areas of the PA Essential Practices for Schools with areas of student performance. Teams will complete action plans for these goals. Improvement Facilitators will review actions plans and support teams as they revise their plan after it is reviewed.
- Continue to support the school-based teams in coordination with the Subject Matter Experts as they implement the plan. Improvement Facilitators will complete high impact tasks, such as working with school based teams to model, provide professional learning, and co-develop resources and protocols.
- During the continuous improvement process, support school-based teams in coordination with the Subject Matter Experts as they monitor the plan. Tasks associated with this facilitation include supporting the team as they review and assess data related to the effectiveness of the plan and the quality of the plan’s implementation, scaling strategies that are working, and revising or replacing strategies that are not working.
- Support school-based teams in coordination with the Subject Matter Experts as they adjust course. Improvement Facilitators will facilitate the teams’ discussion of any recalibrations needed to the plan.
- Bring school leaders together with leaders of similar schools to share experiences and inspire change.
- Compile documents and service delivery artifacts as requested from the Statewide Leader and Regional Leader from each phase of the continuous improvement process.
- Travel between schools, to state/regional meetings, and conferences as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in education, doctorate preferred.
- Minimum of five years experience serving as a teacher leader, curriculum coordinator and/or central office administrator specializing in the area of English Language Arts.
- Knowledge and experience in implementing English Language Arts within a district or school context.
- Knowledge of and experience implementing evidence-based practices in the area of English Language Arts.
- Experience using school improvement strategies and implementation strategies, particularly in English Language Arts.
- Experience and success building the capacity of school-based teams in the context of continuous improvement.
- Experience serving as an excellent facilitator for teams.
