Immigration and Compliance Program Manager

Work Location: US-Remote / Bay Area

As part of the Sumo Logic People Operations Team, the Immigration and Compliance Program Manager is responsible for developing, implementing and improving the framework for the lawful employment of our foreign national workforce globally. This includes leading the company's immigration and compliance programs, policy development and governance. Through strong vendor management and partnership to deliver an excellent employee and new hire experience. This position reports directly to the Sr. Director of People Operations.

Immigration Management (about 60%):

• Responsible for developing and improving immigration programs, policies and administration, and to ensure workforce compliance
• Act as a trusted advisor on immigration matters and design process and communication to simply the navigation for internal keystakholders, employee and managers
• Keep abreast of immigration trends, legislation and best practices, and subsequently adjusts policies and processes to implement changes on an ongoing basis to provide the company with a competitive edge in its foreign national hiring strategy
• Serves as a primary point of contact for immigration agencies, and manages the day-to-day operations of the immigration programs

• Manages Immigration Service Providers with clear monitoring and tracking of KPIs, costs and metrics
• Implement the global Right to Work verification for all of Sumo's operating countries in partnership with the HR Operations team.
• Create an immigration knowledge page in the company intranet to create a platform to address questions and share immigration knowledge.
• Facilitate immigration communication sessions to educate and support employee and managers
• Manage US and international relocation / transfer and extension to ensure tax and immigration compliance.

Compliance Program Management (about 40%):

• Play a leadership and hands-on role to champion compliance focus programs, starting with background check, contingent workforce management and compliance training.
• Develop and maintain the policy and processes of the programs, and drive execution in partnership with HR Operations team and other key stakeholders
• Advocate for risk management and compliance, and keep abreast of law and legislative changes and implement require changes proactively
• Ability to measure the success of the programs and showcase business value add through KPI and data insight
• Responsible for Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) control review of background check and compliance training program

Experience and Skill Required:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Immigration, Human Resources or directly related field.
• Minimum 8 years of progressive immigration experience, with 5+ years as the immigration program owner role in-house
• HR generalist background and hands-on experience in supporting background check and contingent workforce program strongly preferred
• In depth understanding of US business immigration, including temporary worker and permanent residence sponsorship
• Solid understanding of compensation structure and salary range
• Strong customer focus and collaboration
• Solution and data-oriented approach to problem solving
• Experience with audits, government reviews, and regular programmatic reviews to ensure compliance with various legal and policy principles.
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Unquestionable business and personal integrity, ethical standards, maintaining confidentiality is imperative
