Critical Care RN position supports the critical care staffing needs throughout the facility, including a 16bed ICU, two critical care Step-down units and the Emergency Department. This Critical Care RN requires demonstrated competency caring for a variety of critically ill populations, including but not limited to:
Cardiac Surgery, Aortic Vascular Surgery, Respiratory Failure and Septic Shock. The CCFP RN provides nursing care to veterans in a variety of critical care environments and requires flexibility and the ability to re-prioritize at any given moment. The CCFP RN must have sound clinical judgment and skillsets in independent decision-making based on standards of nursing care. We focus on continuous improvement, staff engagement through shared governance, and professional development opportunities to promote personal and professional growth.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS :
The Registered Nurse is accountable to the ICU Nurse Manager who is the rating
and approving official. .
QUALIFICATIONS :
Minimum of Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) is preferred. 1-3 years of current Critical Care experience. CCRN or related nursing specialty certification preferred
RESPONSIBILITIES/ DUTIES:
a. Interpretation of Continuous Telemetry monitored patients
b. Experience caring for complex critically ill patients, and ability to adapt to different clinical areas
c. Experience administering & monitoring moderate sedation
d. Administration & Monitoring of High-Risk medications, including vasopressors, paralytic, sedation, and thrombolytic therapies
e. Advanced airway management, Hemodynamic monitoring, Emergency response
f. Promotes end of life care and Dying with Dignity initiatives
g. BLS/ACLS certification is required for this position and can be obtained upon hire
h. Compliance with various Isolation Precautions and Infection Control Guidelines
i. Skills in time management, priority setting, assessment and urgent intervention are essential for this work team.
j. Advanced Vascular Access Care and Maintenance
k. Works collaboratively with all levels of healthcare professional and support staff to facilitate positive patient care outcomes.
l. Facilitates Patient and caregiver education and support.
m. Recognizes and supports Suicide Prevention initiatives
n. Maintains prevention & management of disruptive behavior skills, can be trained upon hire
o. Participation in High Reliability Organization (HRO) & professional governance initiatives
p. Promotes evidence-based best practices and nurse sensitive indicators (including but not limited to Falls Prevention, Hospital Associated Infection Prevention, Medication error prevention, Safe Patient Handling, and Skin Safety)
