Job Description

The Hydrologist is responsible for overall water management at SSR Mining’s Nevada sites. Duties include but are not limited to short-term and long-term planning of dewatering activities, budgeting, equipment selection, permitting, hydrogeologic monitoring/evaluation, and water rights management.


Key Areas of Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Collect and analyze monitoring data
  • Perform hydrogeology test work and maintenance on the drill holes
  • Recover and re-establish monitoring points after mining through them in an area
  • Assist in hydrogeology evaluation, dewatering design, and selecting drill/well locations as needed
  • Evaluate and calibrate water model performance to assist in dewatering design and planning
  • Ensure water model is updated regularly to meet regulatory requirements and support permitting efforts
  • Prepare memos and reports interpreting findings of data collection and evaluation, model updates and provide guidance and recommendations
  • Communicate with short and long-range engineering to accomplish water management goals
  • Prepare and submit required State of Nevada permits and waivers
  • Manage Marigold Mine, Trenton Canyon Mine and Buffalo Valley Mine water rights and long-term strategy
  • Develop budgetary estimates for dewatering/monitoring infrastructure
  • Act as primary point of contact and lead coordinator for all hydrology related consultants and contractors
  • Manage/supervise drillers and subcontractors
  • Establish and maintain continuous improvement work practices that align with the Marigold safety culture and strategic business plan initiatives
  • Have a strong field presence by driving meaningful safety interactions and condition inspections
  • Develop and maintain positive and effective professional working relationships with vendors and co-workers
  • Unwavering focus on safety and environmental stewardship


Required Skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills required
  • Excellent computer skills including AutoCad, Excel and Vulcan software required
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently and in small multi-disciplinary teams required
  • Ability to effectively collaborate across multiple functions (Environmental, Engineering, Projects)
  • Excellent safety record with ability to demonstrate safety leadership required


Required Experience
  • Bachelor of Science degree in hydrology/geology/geological engineering, civil engineering, geotechnical or related field required
  • Four years of related experience preferred
  • Previous experience in an Open Pit mine environment preferred
  • Familiarity with drill rigs, installation of hydrogeology instrumentation preferred
  • Familiarity with water rights preferred
