The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining and repairing heating, ventilation, and conditioning equipment and systems. Maintaining the safe operation of highly complex systems and equipment. Specific systems may include: Hydronic cooling and heating systems, DX split and packaged AC units, pumps, heat exchangers, air compressors, steam systems, steam traps, PRV stations, and humidifiers. Understanding BAS controls, chiller operations, pump operations, hydronic systems, and air handling systems.
Job Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- Repair of centrifugal chillers is preferred but not required.
- Repair of DX packaged units, split systems, and air-cooled chillers.
- Repair of centrifugal water pumps (seals, bearings, impellers, and shafts).
- Replacement of AHU fan bearings, fans, shafts, coils, and motor bearings.
- Cooling tower repairs.
- Repair of small MRI chillers.
- Dial indicator and laser alignment of belt driven and direct coupled equipment.
- Repair and maintain humidifiers.
- Low temperature and ice machine repair preferred but not required.
- Understanding of steam system components (traps, Spence regulators, humidifiers, and heat exchangers) preferred but not required.
- Repair of computer room cooling systems.
- Perform on-site preventative maintenance, routine repair, and calibration after installation.
- Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical blueprints is preferred.
- Understands basics of building automation systems.
- Uses experience and technical skills with preventive maintenance and system operations to determine service requirements.
- Works in a team-based environment to share information and workload while ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Must work in a safe manner on a daily basis and ensure that all safety measures are taken at all times.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Flexibility to work overtime, on-call, and weekends, as required
Supervisroy / Budgetary / External Communciation Responsibility
- This is an individual contributor role.
- This role is the face of Batchelor & Kimball to many of our customers. This position will require sound communication skills and be able to deliver a sense of comfort, reliability, and can-do attitude to our end users. It will be important to present a clean, professional and organized demeanor. Must work well alone and with others.
- Communicate complex terms to external and internal customers and be able to check for understanding.
Knowledge, skill, and ability requirements (minimum competencies required for job performance)
- Strong electrical and electronic troubleshooting skills
- Strong HVAC and refrigeration skills
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Strong overall system troubleshooting abilities
- Ability to source materials and estimate repair quotes if required
Prior work experience and educational requirements
- Will require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or a technical program.
- 3+ years of commercial/industrial HVAC experience
- EPA certification
- Good driving record, background check and drug-free work place
Physical demands
- The physical demands are those associated with working in the HVAC field.
- Able to meet all physical requirements.
- Must be able to fully operate all applicable tools
- Expected to climb and work at heights and in confined spaces (may exceed 200 ft)
- Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Able to work overtime, nights, and weekends as required by the workload
- Observe and comply with all safety and project rules. Performs other duties as required.
