The Opportunity
WSDOT Human Resources is currently seeking a skilled Human Resource (HR) professional to join our dynamic HR team in a non-permanent capacity for the Southwest Region, The Human Resource Consultant 1 (HRC1) is responsible for providing professional HR support to the managers, supervisors and staff who maintain the highways and their infrastructure. This HR generalist position provides professional level HR support and consultation as well as assists the senior HR Consultant (HRC 4) and the local HR manager.

What to Expect
In this position, the HRC1 will provide guidance on a broad spectrum of HR issues including employee relations, labor relations, technical operations, leave and benefits, classification and compensation, staffing, hiring, and even some event planning.

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, you/the Human Resource Consultant 1 will:

  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with clients, customers, and team members.
  • Serve as the Initial point of contact for assigned customer groups on all technical HR issues such as benefits, compensation, leave administration, hiring, performance management, training, employee work history, and organizational changes.
  • Prepare position action forms for changes and actions within the Human Resource Management System (HRMS).
  • Prepare appointment letters and general correspondence letters.
  • Conduct new employee orientations.
  • Assist employees with benefit enrollment, benefit changes, and completing/processing claims for benefits.

Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
  • Bachelor’s degree with a focus in Business, Human Resources, Social or Organizational Behavioral Sciences, or related field.
OR
  • Equivalent education/experience (four (4) years of experience will substitute for education)
  • Experience with computer programs such as Microsoft Office Suite

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
  • Experience working in the public sector environment.
  • Experience working with civil rules and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Experience working in a fast paced, team-oriented environment.
