Human Capital Services - Global Mobility Tax Senior Associate
POSITION SUMMARY
Grant Thornton’s responsive, partner-led Tax service teams help dynamic companies navigate complexity and grow with insightful, practical tax advice. In addition to tax professionals in our offices across the United States, our Washington National Tax Office provides deep technical knowledge and responsive support in local, state, federal and international tax. Our tax services include: compliance, human capital services, federal tax services, international tax services, state and local tax services, private wealth services, tax reporting and advisory, partnership taxation, not-for-profit tax, and mergers & acquisition tax services.
The Global Mobility Services Senior Associate is involved with the delivery of a full range of global mobility services for multiple clients in a wide variety of industries. Responsibilities include interacting closely with clients to provide day-to-day international assignment programs support, contribute to the advice provided to businesses and individuals for tax and social security planning, payroll consulting, and compliance expertise for a global workforce. The role will involve working directly with clients and internal team members to provide high-quality services in the US and globally.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Clients
Will work directly with clients to provide high quality global mobility consulting and compliance services
Involved in managing day-to-day delivery for a portfolio of clients, working closely with senior team members
Work collaboratively with Grant Thornton International Ltd member firms to provide timely and holistic responses to technical queries for US and global clients.
Coordinate global tax compliance services for clients.
Willing to be involved in projects across Human Capital Services service areas
Works closely with Grant Thornton’s Bangalore Shared Services Center (SSC) to manage compliance processes and deliverables
Participate in US arrival and departure tax briefing meetings
Technical Proficiency
Address, research, and consult on technical issues specific to employee payroll, compensation, benefits, and global mobility taxes and prepare related written communications.
Candidate should have familiarity with individual income tax issues and tax law including foreign national and expatriate issues, foreign tax compliance.
Works with colleagues to develop solutions to complex technical issues
Candidate should have familiarity with individual income tax issues and tax law including foreign national and expatriate issues, foreign tax compliance.
Understands and able to advise clients on international assignment and tax policies, including equalization and protection processes
Conduct primary and secondary review of US individual tax returns.
People
Facilitate and participate in firm-wide training and communications relating to global mobility matters.
Proactively manages own career, seeking out opportunities to work on a variety of assignments to build on existing experience
Operations
Lead on compliance season initiation processes and manage e-filing requirements
Proactively manages personal utilization targets
Manages work to ensure recover targets can be met, raises issues where appropriate
Works with Partner to raise invoices on a prompt basis
Understands their contribution to the team's profitability
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Minimum of three years’ experience in global mobility services.
Experience with a Big 4, mid-tier firm or law firm.
Superior analytical, technical, and tax accounting/technology skills with proficiency in individual tax consulting and compliance. Experience with inbound and outbound employee relocation consulting. Ability to effectively com
Communicate cross border tax concepts to clients who are not tax specialists.
Ability to manage competing priorities in a rapidly growing, fast-paced, interactive, results-based team environment.
Computer expertise including knowledge of tax software and technology.
Preferred Skills and Experience
Advanced degree or professional certification preferred.
Additional Information
Ability to work additional hours as needed and travel upon occasion.
