Cleans and inspects public areas to ensure hotel cleanliness standards are met.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Remains knowledgeable about the hotel’s facilities including but not limited to: the hallways, the vending areas, the outdoor corridors, the lobby area, the break room, the fitness center, the back office area, the laundry room, public restrooms, and other public areas.
- Knows the proper methods of cleaning each area. Knows when each area should be cleaned according to scheduled times or when needed.
- Inspects all public areas to ensure cleanliness standards have been met; reports any problem areas to supervisor.
- Cleans and services assigned areas in a timely and organized manner according to procedures and standards.
- Cleans and services assigned areas in response to special requests or problems.
- Picks up noticeable trash or debris and sweeps or vacuums entry at the front desk upon arrival.
- Frequently checks public bathrooms and restocks toilet paper and facial tissue as needed.
- Cleans and sanitizes telephones, door handles, and other hardware fixtures. Also polishes chrome and other surfaces routinely.
- Empties wastebaskets. Adds clean liners and takes trash to the standard outlet.
- Dusts, cleans and straightens furniture.
- Vacuums all areas according to a schedule or when needed.
- Responds quickly to a guest, supervisor, or management requests in a friendly and appropriate manner.
- Reports needed repairs or unsafe conditions to supervisor and guest services.
- Keeps supplies organized and stocked. Reports needed materials to supervisor.
- May occasionally assist room attendants with heavy items such as mattresses and soiled linens. May deliver necessary or low-stocked supplies to room attendants or other lobby attendants.

- Shampoos carpets, strips, and waxes floors throughout the hotel.
- Cleans designated areas such as the lobby, public restrooms, public areas, and back of house areas on hotel property.
- Collects trash throughout the hotel including room attendants’ carts, vending and room service areas, offices, and restrooms.
- Responds to guest requests such as the delivery of housekeeping supplies (e.g. linens, roll-aways, etc.) in a timely and efficient manner.
- Responds quickly to guest requests in a friendly manner. Follows up to ensure guest satisfaction.
- Provides a professional image at all times through appearance and dress.
- Follows company policies and procedures.
Note: Other duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience: Basic reading, writing, and math skills.
Certification and/or License Requirement: None.

Working Conditions:
- Will be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Will be required to work in a fast-paced environment.

- Since assisting room attendants and cleaning public areas are the major responsibilities of this position, Housepersons spend a significant portion of their workday involved with the following: carrying, lifting, pushing, and pulling.
- The vast majority of time is spent cleaning the public areas of the hotel, and this is usually accomplished by walking through or standing in these areas.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to smell.
- Communication skills are necessary some of the time when responding to a guest request.
- In addition to frequently operating a vacuum cleaner, Housepersons may often operate a carpet shampooing machine, a floor buffing machine, and a wet vac as well as other cleaning machines.
- House persons typically lift and/ or carry items as much as 75 pounds and pull and/ or push items weighing as much as 500 pounds.
- The person in this position has some opportunities to utilize problem-solving abilities.
- Reports to: Director of Housekeeping, Assistant Housekeeper, Housekeeping Supervisor.
- The job title is also known as: Houseman.
