Job Summary:
Practices within the scope of regulations outlined in the Texas Nurse Practice Act. Responsible for assessing the needs of each patient assigned to his/her care and for planning, and providing for the nursing care to meet those needs, including physical, psychosocial, and spiritual. Responsible for coordinating the planned care with available staff, implementing the plan, and evaluating the care delivered to assigned patients. Identifies and solves patient problems, contributes to self-development and unit leadership by teaching and supervising co-workers. Minimal supervision required.
Essential Functions:
- Demonstrates the ability to transfer scientific knowledge form social, biological, and physical sciences in applying the nursing process.
- Demonstrates knowledge and competency in performing baseline-nursing skills. Maintains clinical competencies according to departmental standards.
- Accurately assesses patients according to unit guidelines upon admission and continually assesses patients for information necessary to plan and administer care.
- Accurately identifies and determines priority of the patient’s needs/problems, anticipating emergencies and complications of pathology, making provisions for them and assisting others in implementing complex care.
- Administers all medications and treatments according to hospital policy and procedure and accepted standards of care and unit guidelines.
- Communicates effectively with patients, families, and physicians.

- Demonstrates knowledge through performance by utilizing training in ACLS, BLS, (AHA) Chemo Certification and Trauma education (8 hrs annually).
- Demonstrates knowledge through performance by utilizing training in PALS.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Experience: 4 years Nursing experience.
License/Certification:
- BLS (AHA) certification upon hire.
- ACLS within 1 year.
- Training in Chemo Certification and Trauma education (8 hrs annually).
- Current license as Registered Nurse from the New Mexico Board of Nursing or approved compact State as a Registered Nurse
Preferred Position Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
Experience: Critical Care experience.
License/Certification: Training in PALS.
