Hospital Underpayments/Denial Supervisor
Overview of Position
The Hospital Underpayments/Denials Supervisor coordinates recovery activities to assure that standards are adhered to and that the recovery efforts process functions efficiently and accurately.
What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?
- Serve as a resource or Subject Matter Expert (SME) for other team members or internal customers
- Provides ongoing training and education to recovery staff to ensure that policies and procedures are followed
- Meets with the Audit Manager regularly to effectively communicate and resolve issues, set and prioritize goals, improve processes and review team performance
- Assists with staff communication, providing updates, resolving issues, setting goals, and maintaining standards
- Retrieves and maintains daily reports as necessary
- Assists with training of Audit personnel in underpayment and denial identification and pursuit strategies
- Reviews and maintains standards of turnaround expectation, customer satisfaction expectations.
- Reviews accounts using experience-gained knowledge of fee schedule and medical terminology; maintains knowledge of inventory regardless of complexity of claims, levels of service, or multiple jurisdictions.
- Works with the Audit Manager, audit staff and client to resolve questions, redesign workflow, and ensure efficiency and effective results are maintained.
- Practice and adhere to the “Code of Conduct” philosophy and “Mission and Value Statement” of Change Healthcare.
- Policies & Procedures - demonstrates knowledge and understanding of organizational policies, procedures, and systems
- Other duties as assigned
What are the requirements needed for this position?
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 3+ years of experience in a medical revenue cycle environment
- Minimum of 3 years of post-payment recovery experience required- preferably across many payers (i.e., Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care, & Commercial) and facility types (Acute, SNF, IRF, LTAC, & Cancer)
- Working knowledge of computers and demonstrated proficiency in using Email systems, Internet, and MS office software applications with emphasis in Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of Federal and State regulations applicable to Government and Insurance Collections
What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?
- 1+ year’s leadership experience preferred
- Communication - communicates clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing
- Customer orientation - establishes and maintains long-term customer relationships, building trust and respect by consistently meeting and exceeding expectations
- Interpersonal skills - able to work effectively with other employees, management, and external parties
- Must be able to demonstrate a high level of judgment attention to detail, and resourcefulness
