Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Hope Unit Clinical Nurse Manager

SUPERVISED BY: Program Director , Hospital Director of Nurses

SUPERVISES: Nursing staff

DEPARTMENT: Hope Unit

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Educational: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing; Master's degree in nursing preferred. Licensed and currently registered as a professional nurse in the state.

Experience: Two years psychiatric nursing experience minimum, this may be increased per state standards; six months supervisory experience in a psychiatric setting preferred.

Demonstrated leadership abilities; able to work under stressful conditions; and possesses

good verbal and written communication skills.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Nurse Manager, under administrative direction and consistent with the program philosophy, assesses, plans, implements and evaluates and delivers nursing care for the program. He/she provides managerial support to the Program Director by providing supervision and evaluation of any nursing personnel. He/she contributes to the program, nursing and the Hospital through support of nursing and program philosophy and objectives.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Recruits, interviews and selects nursing staff as needed to foster and maintain the therapeutic environment.
  • Provides leadership and direction for nursing goals and objectives.
  • Supervises nursing employees, provides direction and counsel as needed
  • Schedules appropriate staff coverage for unit, manages within hospital Budget
  • Maintains communication with PD regarding unit issues and DON regarding nursing issues.
  • Keeps PCI, Director of Clinical Serv. posted.
  • Identifies problems and participates/initiates resolution.
  • Accepts consultation relative to nursing issues and administration from the DON and PCI staff.
  • Demonstrates ability to prioritize duties.
  • Fosters and maintains a commitment to the interdisciplinary team concept of the Unit.
  • Collaborates with the Program Director in maintenance of the therapeutic environment.
  • Provides scheduled nursing groups to patients and documents as required.
  • If delegated, supervises provision of those services by qualified nursing personnel .
  • Follows the policy & procedure
  • Assists PD in maintaining performance improvement components of program
  • Provides input in formulating patient treatment plan.
  • Follows established nursing care standards for establishing effective la plans.
  • Ensures continuity of nursing care based on the knowledge of clinical nursing needs and the patients' individual treatment plans.
  • Ensures that all medical conditions are identified and have an appropriate treatment plan.
  • Assists PD in completion of chart audits. Initiates corrective action.
  • Attends interdisciplinary conference to discuss the delivery of patient care.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Serves as a role model for the nursing staff through professional behavior, positive attitude and demonstration of clinical competence.
  • Collect data, analysis and initiates corrective action. Prepares quality/PI report and presents data to the PI Committee.
  • Interacts with family members and visitors to promote mental health

concepts.

  • Collaborates with staff development in planning & providing

educational in-services

  • Collaborates with PD in developing educational programs for the lay community
  • Represents program with hospital nursing personnel
  • Represents the hospital and Senior Care Unit when attending professional meetings
  • Models appropriate telephone etiquette, attitude and verbal therapeutic interventions

for nursing staff.

  • Always functions within the legal boundaries established by the Nurse Practice Act appropriate to the state in which the program is functioning.
  • Maintains the dignity and confidentiality of the patient at all times.

OTHER

  • Maintain a positive, professional image in the hospital

and in the community as outlined by hospital and company

  • Maintain regular work hours in order to adequately perform job duties

adequately in position.

  • Exhibits characteristics of patience, tact, cheerfulness and

enthusiasm toward the program and patients are essential.

  • Must be able to cope with all types of patient behavior.
  • Complies with/maintains ethics of profession/nursing scope of practice.
  • Any additional duties that are appropriate for the effective functioning of the program.
