Position Summary:
The Higher Ground Program Assistant is responsible for providing a continuum of care for shelter guests assigned to her during their residency at the Center for Women and Children. This includes providing supervision and support at the Edward’s residence and assisting the case managers with various program elements during afternoon, evening and weekend hours.

Qualifications:
To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies to perform the essential functions of this position.
- Possess a sincere love of Christ and maintain a Christian walk that is evident of that love. Individual must be willing to sign and adhere to the WM Statement of Faith.
- Dependability – consistently at work and on time, reports to all scheduled shifts, follows instructions, responds to management direction and solicits feedback to improve personal performance, and completes tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
- Be flexible and able to work with women experiencing homelessness from various backgrounds and at different skill levels.
- Willingness to pursue relevant certifications.
- Possess a valid Indiana driver’s license and be able to drive under the company insurance policy.
Essential Requirements:

1. The Program Assistant will mediate disputes and give counsel and guidance to guests when needed using scripture as the basis for all discussions. She will record the incidents and communicate information promptly with the Case Managers and Program Director.
2. The Program Assistant will function as the point person at the Edwards Residence by providing Orientation to new guests, facilitating a Christ-centered atmosphere, handling off-hours emergencies, and promptly reporting all maintenance/security issues.
3. The Program Assistant will effectively and accurately navigate the database system to manage guest data in a timely manner.
4. The Program Assistant will determine weekly food needs by ensuring that a menu is complete and facilitating food pick up/grocery shopping.
5. The Program Assistant will be responsible for evening medication distribution unless otherwise delegated by Program Director.
6. The Program Assistant will work with case managers and the Program Director to plan, facilitate and supervise evening and weekend activities including visitation supervision, transportation to meetings, church, and activities.
7. The Program Assistant will participate in weekly Higher Ground Team Meetings and CWC staff meetings.
8. The Program Assistant will perform other administrative or programmatic tasks as assigned by the Program Director.

The HG Program Assistant must be able to carry out the required job duties in a fast-paced Christ Centered environment that is grace-based, trauma informed, and strengths focused.
Physical Demands:
To perform the essential job functions of the HG Program Assistant position, a candidate must be capable of performing many physical functions including:
1. Walking short distances with the ability to ascend and descend ten flights of stairs.
2. Physical dexterity sufficient to type and operate standard office equipment.
3. Physical ability to perform normal office functions with the endurance to remain standing for long periods of time.
4. Strength to lift office supplies and equipment up to 20 pounds.

The HG Program Assistant must be able to:

Required Education and Experience:
- HS Diploma or the educational equivalent
- Experience working with women and children who may have experienced substance abuse, mental health concerns, trauma, domestic violence or homelessness
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Experience with mentoring and discipleship of women struggling with addiction
Background Investigation and Drug Testing:
- After a “conditional offer of employment” is made, the individual must pass a background investigation which includes a consumer credit investigative report.
- Wheeler Mission Ministries has a mandatory drug testing policy for all new employees. The successful applicant must submit to and pass a drug and/or alcohol test. This drug and/or alcohol testing may occur any time after the applicant receives a conditional offer of employment. All employees must sign and adhere to WM Drugs and Alcohol policy and remain free from addiction to drugs or alcohol.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
The HG Program Assistant may be responsible for providing task supervision of SLTs and volunteers.
Expected Hours of Work:
This full-time position is typically staffed throughout the week with some evening and weekend hours required. Schedules are assigned at the discretion of the Director or Program Director and may change at any time with or without advance notice.
Travel:
Local travel between Wheeler Mission locations.
