POSITION: Health Services Administrator

SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 8a-5p

FACILITY: Penitentiary of New Mexico

LOCATION: Santa Fe, New Mexico

POSITION SUMMARY

  • The Health Services Administrator is responsible for effectively and efficiently managing the institution’s overall health care delivery system and monitoring all health service contract activities; consulting with the Regional Manager or designee regarding routine institutional issues of an administrative nature, and discussing issues of a complex or unusual clinical nature involving patient management with clinical leadership.
  • Develop and implement institutional directives and procedures to comply with administrative directives of the facility.
  • Conduct department health and staff meetings (MAC, CQI), and attend facility meetings and training as required. Ensures meeting minutes are taken and shared with all appropriate staff.
  • Direct orientation to the facility, the institution, and in-service educational programs for health service staff, to comply with the facilities’, ACA, NCCHC, and JCAHO standards, as applicable.
  • Supervise department staff in the resolution of health care unit personnel issues or complaints, and/or directly intervening in problem areas to ensure prompt resolution involving the institutional administration, contractor, if applicable, or corporate office personnel as necessary.
  • Supervise department staff in the operations of pharmacy, medical records, nursing, lab, x-ray, etc.
  • Provide for the routine meetings and functions required by administrative directives, including Quality Assurance, Pharmacy and Therapeutics, and Health Care Unit Staff Meetings. Submit meeting minutes to appropriate Wexford Health and facility leadership.
  • Coordinate and monitor preparation of the institutional health services budget with the Regional Manager and Director, Operations.
  • Supervise requisition of supplies and equipment to ensure appropriate usage and availability; and maintain property and equipment control records as required.
  • Monitors overall performance utilizing national standards and contract deliverables
  • Perform administrative employee relations functions to include: supervision of performance, recruitment and selection, developing job descriptions, conducting performance reviews, implement corrective action and individual development plans, scheduling and approving PTO, etc.
  • Supervise scheduling of patients for outside appointments. Review initial hospital specialty referrals with the Medical Director to ensure appropriateness and oversee interactions with medical specialists.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE
The following requirements list the minimum to qualify. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.

LICENSURE:
None. Current New Mexico Nursing license a plus
EDUCATION:
Associates degree in a healthcare-related field required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
  • 3 years of experience in a supervisory/leadership role or training in administrative aspects of health care preferred; 2 years of administrative and/or correctional nursing experience can be substituted for Bachelor's degree.
  • Correctional health care experience preferred.
CERTIFICATION:
Current CPR certification

  • Ability to work in a stressful environment
  • Must be able to direct facility staff to ensure compliance with policies and procedures and completion of organizational projects.
