- Performs telemetry monitoring. Obtains, reads, measures, and interprets electrocardiogram (ECG) strips
- Participates in setting up telemetry monitoring on Philips monitors, which includes setting individual patient parameters, and adjusting alarm settings; frequency of vital signs; lead placement; and electrode care.
- Reviews trends of vital signs, and ends case in the Philips monitor when patient is discharged.
- Differentiates between blue, yellow, and red alarms on telemetry monitor. Identifies life-threatening dysrhythmias and initiates appropriate action according to established protocols and written procedures.
- Operates, calibrates and maintains medical instruments or equipment. Monitors and plans equipment inventory, routine equipment maintenance, and serves as a unit resource for cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of non-critical, semi-critical, and critical Reusable Medical Equipment (RME).
- Orders and maintains specialized supplies needed for equipment and instruments used in assigned unit.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. Best qualified applicants have: At least 1 yr. recent Telemetry Technician experience; at least 1 yr. recent Health Technician or Nursing Assistant experience; BLS Certification; experience providing care to post-operative/post-procedural patients; experience providing 1:1 care to patients with suicidal/homicidal ideation & experience with supply and equipment management.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The position includes physical exertion such as regular and recurring walking, stooping, bending, reaching and lifting of equipment and supplies. The HT must be able to lift 35 lbs., perform the following physical activities: pulling, pushing, reaching above the shoulders and laterally, use of fingers, both hands, arms, and legs, sitting, walking, and standing for long periods. Also, he/she must be able to hear whispered voices (with or without a hearing aid), kneeling, repeated bending, ability for rapid mental/muscular coordination simultaneously, visual requirements for monitoring observation, depth perception, and ability to distinguish shades of color.
