Minimum Qualifications:
- 1 year or more of verifiable experience training and/or working in the health care filed performing any of the following clerical and data management, which includes but not limited to data entry, typing, faxing, data transfer, sending mail and/or multi-line phones
- reliable transportation and a valid driver's license-if out of state license, a Florida driver's license is required within 30 days
- current CPR (Basic Life Support) certification
- Florida Department of Health is required to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs shelter or performing other emergency duties including but not limited to, response to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster man-made or natural.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This is a Health Support Specialist (HSS) position in the Basic School Health Program working under the supervision of a Senior Community Health Nurse and a Community Health Nursing Supervisor.
Data Collection and Management: The incumbent will perform a variety of clerical and data management functions in the School Health Program at the DOH-Orange. The incumbent will collect, maintain, organize, and coordinate data transfer between DOH-Orange School Health Program and Orange County Public Schools (OCPS). The incumbent will demonstrate good communication skills, while maintaining effective working relations and good rapport with school health program staff and OCPS representatives. Assigned duties require independent judgement, as well as the ability to multi-task, plan, organize and coordinate work efforts. Assigned duties require the ability to prioritize work, finish assignments, and review work for accuracy and quality of content prior to data entry into HMS and data transfer to OCPS and/or student families.
The incumbent will be knowledgeable of data collection and transfer methods, and be able to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
The incumbent performs end-of-the-month data review for accuracy and quality of content.
Screening Programs: Ensures all screening services are coded into HMS (Health Management System) to include FTTY's (First Time This Year), rescreens, referrals, outcomes, incomplete referrals, and Opt-Outs.
Vision Screenings:
Gathers all statistical data. Places the initial screening data into HMS under volunteer code. Input data into HMS as needed. Will coordinate with DOH nurse for students that have failed and sends referral letters to parents advising of the need to seek further medical evaluation. Follow ups requires 3 attempts utilizing any combination of letter, phone call, or meeting. Will track referral attempts by coding outcomes and incompletes into HMS.
Height and Weights BMI (Body Mass Index):
Gathers all statistical data. Follow ups requires 3 attempts utilizing any combination of letter, phone call, or meeting. Will track referral attempts by coding outcomes and incompletes into HMS.
Immunizations:
Participates in various immunization events entering data. Ensures all record reviews and immunization follow up actions are coded in HMS. Utilizing knowledge of immunization requirements, may complete and sign immunization form 680.
Enters and certifies daily activity in EARS (Employee Activity Record). Accounts for time in People First. Confirms Emergency Response. Attends all meetings and conferences as required. Maintains all required trainings and updates job-related education.
Duties as assigned:
Provides orientation and support to new DOH-School Health staff. May participate in health fairs and community events. Provides support as needed at outreach/awareness and incident response events within the community to include mass immunization, emergency response activities, and community health engagements. Support may be required outside of normal business hours to accommodate community needs during evening and weekends hours.
Performs other related duties as required.
