Job Description

Position Summary / Career Interest:Under the supervision of an Advanced Practice Provider, this position will participate in collecting data for patients who are taking part in a study on post stroke care/stroke recovery. It involves reinforcing education that has already been provided to patients and family members and may include using a telehealth platform for visits and education.
We are looking for excellent communication skills, a basic understanding of medical terminology, and the ability to do data entry and educate our patients.
Individuals that will do well in this role could include background with EMT, paramedic, LPN, Medical Assistant, medical or nursing student, or those who majored in health care administration.
This position can be flexible during the week, but will be full time 8 hour shifts and could include around a 2 year commitment. Responsibilities:

- Provides basic nursing skills, including but not limited to: Vital signs and pulse oximetry; phlebotomy; 12-lead ECG; fingerstick blood glucose; ADL’s; recording intake and output; collecting urine, stool, sputum specimens; apply/remove compression hose; SCDs etc.; emptying drains, urinary catheters, NG tubes, and ostomies; additional skills to meet unit needs.
- Documents in O2 all tasks, I&O, percentage of meals eaten, etc.
- Maintains a neat, clutter-free and clean patient room and work environment.
- Maintains a safe patient environment to include High Fall Risk interventions as appropriate for high fall risk patients. This can include but is not limited to: hourly rounds; answering call lights in person promptly for all patients on the unit.
- Demonstrates proper hand hygiene, standard precautions, and isolation principles.
- Care for the patient in restraints, including ROM and fluids/toileting; reorienting confused patients; reinforcement of patient/family education regarding fall and safety precautions.
- Promptly notifies the RN of change in vital signs from baseline or expected result, change in mental status or condition, any breakdown in skin integrity or redness of skin, patient report of pain, any other patient needs, concerns or issues.
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Technical/Professional Training/Degree in: MA, EMT or LPN OR
- Bachelor’s degree in a health care or science related field
- Familiar with Microsoft Outlook, data entry
- BLS Certification
- Previous medical office experience
