The Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist II provides assistance to physicians, providers, and patients for the maintenance of the medical record, on paper and electronically, for all SCCA Clinics. Supports HIM functions including, but not limited to: scanning, audits, transcription processing, hospital admissions, clinical consenting. Serves as liaison with providers, clinic staffs, patients, and external partners. Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for chart creation, maintenance, and breakdown for all SCCA Clinics, on paper and in electronic formats.
  • Responds to requests for charts and patient information from providers, clinics, and facilities as needed and in accordance with HIM policies, Federal and Washington State laws.
  • Supports HIM processes as assigned in the areas of:
  • Printing and distribution of transcription.
  • Participating in any and all aspects of scanning.
  • Meets productivity standards as determined by HIM leadership.
  • Performs other reasonably related HIM duties as assigned by HIM leadership.
  • Assists with cross coverage in the HIM department by training others and learning new tasks.
  • Collects patient records from clinics and brings to HIM for inclusion in patient charts.
Qualifications: Required:

  • Associate of Arts Degree in Health Information Management or complimentary field of study; or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum one year in healthcare environment.
  • Highly organized and detailed oriented with ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with computer data entry skills.
  • Ability to interact with many types of internal and external customers in a flexible, accommodating manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well (in both verbal and written formats) with patients, staff, and providers
  • Knowledge of health information management operations and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment based upon departmental policies and procedures.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite applications, ORCA, Epic, Mindscape, and scanning software.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management or equivalent work experience.
  • RHIT/RHIA
