- Directs high school instrumental performers, including marching band, orchestra, concert band, soloists, and ensembles.
- Establishes performance requirements, enforces academic requirements, and verifies each student’s eligibility to participate in band.
- Provides for band participation at extracurricular events, including concerts, football games, pep rallies, parades, and UIL activities.
- Arranges transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town events.
- Complies with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, UIL rules, and board policy in the band area.
- Supports band booster club activities and ensures operation according to UIL Booster Club Guidelines.
- Obtains and uses evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to determine program effectiveness and ensures that program renewal is continuous and responds to student needs.
- Recommends policies to improve program.
- Ensures that programs are cost-effective, and funds are managed wisely.
- Compiles budgets and costs estimates based on documented program needs.
- Coordinates fundraising activities and manages funds.
- Maintains current inventory of all fixed assets within department.
- Oversees process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all band equipment.
- Develops and implements plans for instrumental music program and shows written evidence of preparation as required.
- Prepares lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.
- Presents subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
- Conducts ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Creates an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Applies and enforces student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Accompanies and supervises students on out-of-town trips.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Establishes and maintains open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
- Maintains professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Follows all rules, regulations and policies of Denton ISD and follow directives from supervisors.

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Directs and manages the overall program of instrumental band music for the district. Provides students with an opportunity to participate in extracurricular band activities and ensure compliance with all state, University Interscholastic League (UIL), and district requirements. Plans instructional strategies and program activities to achieve district, region, area, and state recognition.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Master's Degree, preferred; Bachelor’s Degree required
Music Degree (Instrumental/Band Emphasis); Music Teacher Certification
EC-12 (Instrumental/Band Emphasis) required

APPOINTMENT: The appointment of this position will be recommended to the Board of Trustees by the Superintendent of Schools on the basis of the applicant’s training, experience, and expertise. The Board of Trustees must give final approval.
