Guided Pathways Counselor - Adult Education

THE POSITION:he supervision of the Dean of Counseling and Guided Pathways and/or assigned administrator. The Guided Pathways - Adult Education Counselor provides comprehensive counseling services to adult and reentry students from diverse backgrounds regarding degree and vocational education program planning, university transfer planning, career, and goal clarification and personal life management. The Guided Pathways- Adult Education Counselor will work closely with the Adult and Workforce Development Department and the Career and Technical Education programs providing individual academic, career, and related support to adult and reentry students as they progress through their desired academic program. The Guided Pathways - Adult Education Counselor will also administer comprehensive services for adult and reentry students. Responsibilities include academic and career advising, ensuring students follow their approved course of study; reviewing grade reports and contacting students as needed for follow-up services; developing workshops on a wide range of topics and other activities ensuring student success within the program. The assignment also includes participation in the governance process through professional development activities, committee work, and student activities. The assignment may involve day, evening, and weekend assignments. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIESThe duties of the Guided Pathways Counselor - Adult Education may include, but not be limited to, the following:
Delivers comprehensive counseling support services to adult and reentry students through degree completion. Conducts workshops and group counseling on topics of relevance and interest. Assist students in determining their educational and occupational goals. Offers customized adult school orientation to meet the needs of a wide cross-section of students with career education, degree, and transfer interests. Reviews student progress and refers students to academic support services. Regularly collaborates with faculty and other college staff as needed to support student success. Supports annual recruitment of the adult and reentry student population at District adult school locations. As needed, administer adult education or career education needs and skills assessment by utilizing appropriate surveys and questionnaires. Assists in organizing periodic special events and programs for adult and reentry students, faculty, and staff. Develops student education plans and provides follow-up for students Participates in the development of retention strategies to assist students in completing their goal. Provide virtual and/or group counseling. May teach Human Development classes. Provides input into the development of curriculum guide sheets and catalog materials with the college and four-year institutions. Maintain existing relationships with District adult school locations. May participate in division and counseling department program review. May participate in the assessment of the related service area outcomes (SAOs). May participate in the assessments of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs).

Required Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling; OR Bachelor's degree in one of the above listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline; OR The equivalent - Candidates not possessing the required qualifications as stated on this announcement must complete the Request For Equivalency Form as part of the application process to explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above; OR Valid California Community College Instructor credential in appropriate subject issued prior to July 1, 1990; AND Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and of individuals with disabilities. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Strong understanding of the needs and challenges facing students from diverse urban backgrounds Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, within the department and with faculty and other administrators Strong organization, project management, communication, and facilitation skills Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records of student activities Computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, and aptitude to learn new systems as needed Experience using a case management model of serving students including confidential record keeping procedures. Experience advising students in a post-secondary program. Experience using electronic student education plans, course placements, and student information systems and internet for academic and career planning. Experience collaborating with multiple service providers within the campus and the community. Experience working with non-traditional college students that face multiple outside barriers, such as poverty, parenthood, academic disadvantage, physical and/or emotional abuse, drug abuse and/or anxiety and depression. Effective oral and written communication skills. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
SALARY RANGE: $60,431 - $89,569 (depending upon education and experience)The College provides a diversified insured benefit program for all full-time employees, including medical, dental, vision and life insurance. Dependent medical, dental and vision insurance is available, toward which the College and the employee may contribute.

Paid sick leave is granted equal to one day for each month of service. Sick leave may be accumulated indefinitely. Rather than State Disability Insurance, limited sick-leave benefits are available for days beyond the earned sick-leave days. Long-term disability income-protection insurance is also available.

Full-time employees contribute a percentage of their regular salary to either the State Teachers' Retirement System (STRS) or to the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) and Social Security.
