Group Lead Medical Lab Tech


Group Lead Medical Lab Tech - Hackensack, NJ - Monday-Friday Evenings-2:30 PM-11:30 PM (Rotational Saturday)

Position Summary

The Group Lead, Medical Lab Technician performs test procedures of moderate/high complexity requiring some independent judgment and use of various instrumentation under the direction of senior laboratory personnel in those specialties in which the Technician is qualified by education, training, and experience. The Group Lead, Medical Lab Technician is responsible for assuring that a given test system is operated in accordance with the laboratory’s procedure manual and that the applicable quality control requirements are met. Group Lead, Medical Lab Technician will also perform additional tasks, including, but not limited to: reviewing QC, R&D on new testing procedures, calibrating pipettes, prepping instruments, monitoring reagent stock, etc.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities


  • Responsible for performing assigned tests under the direction of senior laboratory personnel in accordance with the department's procedure manual, ensuring that applicable quality control requirements are met.

  • Ensures that test systems are "in control" for each test performed.

  • Ensures that each test is performed according to the schedule outlined by laboratory protocol.

  • Responsible for informing supervisory personnel of all problems associated with the proper performance of test procedures while also using initiative to solve above problems such as trouble-shooting instruments.

  • Actively supports and complies with laboratory policies and procedures.

  • Pulls pending daily to ensure test results are reported in accordance with posted departmental turn-around times.

  • Verifies and releases results of limited tests under supervision of senior personnel.

  • Adheres to all established laboratory safety requirements.

  • Required to use (a) personal protective equipment, including latex gloves (b) engineering controls and/or (c) work practice controls as directed by management.

  • Other job-related, miscellaneous duties as assigned.


Physical Demands


Able to work any shift and be able to stand for long periods. Color blindness may restrict the ability to perform certain duties (Differential slide reading).


Qualification
:


Experience, Education, and Licensure

Qualified by one of the following:

  • AAS Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution plus three years experience - or -

  • On or before April 25, 1995 , high school graduate or equivalent and successful completion of a military medical laboratory training course of at least 50 weeks duration and have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician) plus three years experience. Candidates who complete military training after the specified date may be considered on a case by case basis – or –

  • AS or BS Degree in a biological, chemical or physical science from an accredited institution, plus four years full-time testing experience (one year training, three years testing) in a clinical lab setting – or-

  • Successful completion of 60 semester hours of college coursework including 24 semester hours in chemistry and biology (6 hours in Chemistry, 6 hours in Biology, and 12 additional hours in any combination of Biology, Chemistry or Medical technology courses), plus four years full-time testing experience(one year training, three years testing) in a clinical lab setting.
