Summary: The Group Facilitator conducts groups throughout the programming day meant to provide: education, coping and life skills, relaxation techniques, and other tools meant to aid in recovery and post treatment living. The Group Facilitator understands the common objectives of clients in group therapy and uses this in the development and implementation of groups. The Group Facilitator guides discussion among clients and engages the therapeutic process within the group dynamic. The Group Facilitator directs the process of group therapy while maintaining neutrality and allowing discussion to flow in a healthy and supportive manner even when faced with adversity among participants.
Essential Functions

Utilize knowledge of current recovery and therapeutic tools to develop and implement group agendas that engage evidence based practices
Document the group session utilizing clear and concise verbiage that depicts the following: group objective, group response, and plans for implementation of learned tools for discussion in future individual or group settings.
Utilize a variety of listening skills to successfully conduct group therapy including: ability to paraphrase; stack a conversation; draw people out; balance participation; and make space for more reticent group members
Contribute structure and process into the interactions so groups are able to function effectively and make high-quality decisions
Offer feedback to Case Managers and Therapists about their clients in relation to their master treatment goals and problem list.
Alert the supervisory team to any imminent or acute issues that may arise based on assessment of clients in group therapy
Provide crisis intervention to support staff in the event a client requires immediate intervention
Complete all tasks in accordance with Resurgence Behavioral Health, state, and other accrediting body policies and procedures.
Model appropriate behaviors and interactions for clients during group sessions
Team Work
Be able to utilize customer service skills with the ability to effectively communicate with internal clients and external service providers as well as integrated team members
Ability to be flexible and open to different and new ways of doing things and working with the treatment team, operations staff, and clients to collaborate on treatment approaches to enhance overall outcomes
Adhere to a consistent work schedule and covering other groups in the event that a staff member is unable to conduct a group due to extenuating circumstances
Problem Solving
The Group Facilitator is able to effectively run a group and maintain focus when groups are unable to stay on task or stray from discussion topic
The Group Facilitator is able to engage clients who are hesitant to share by creating a safe space that allows for engagement
The Group Facilitator is able to maintain a safe environment or sharing when clients are staff engage in discussion or behavior that attempts to make others feel uncomfortable
The Group Facilitator is able to change his/her approach and use of modalities and tools when it has been determined that the current tools are ineffective at eliciting the desired response
Productivity and Efficiency
The Group Facilitator must complete all required HR training within stipulated time periods.
The Group Facilitator is able to communicate in an effective manner both in writing and orally via face to face interaction or telephone
Timely attendance and punctuality is demonstrated and notification to the direct supervisor is required prior to any tardiness or outage.
The Group facilitator maintains a consistent schedule and groups are documentation are completed in a timely fashion adhering to program timelines
Personal Development
Attend all required trainings and meetings as they pertain to program development and updates
Complete all continuing coursework and education required to maintain certification or licensure
Competencies
Demonstrate knowledge of the use of evidence based practices by utilizing them in the development and implementation of group agendas
Demonstrate knowledge of computer skills by utilizing working knowledge of Mac operating systems, Google Suite and electronic health record
Demonstrate knowledge of group therapy and processes as evidenced by successful completion and accurate documentation of group session
Demonstrate knowledge of 12-Step and other recovery modalities as evidenced by use of information from these areas in group discussion
Demonstrate a working knowledge of substance use disorder treatment processes as evidence by use of related topics in sessions and provision of education to clients in these areas
Demonstrate knowledge of legal and ethical processes in treatment as evidenced by adherence to standards, protection of client privacy and confidentiality, and seeking out supervision when unsure of how to proceed in a situation where ethics or legality is questioned
Demonstrate knowledge of the multiple types of addiction, their sources, effective interventions, and impact on overall client well being as evidenced by discussion of topics during group and continually assessing client responses to discussion and interventions
Demonstrate ability to remain compassionate, empathic, and neutral in group settings when discussion appears to strongly impact participants as evidenced by keeping composure, showing unconditional positive regard to clients, and maintaining group focus and safety when the above mentioned situation arises
Minimum Qualifications
Current certification as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor Intern (LCDC-I), a Licensed Professional Counselor, Intern (LPC-Intern), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate (LMFT-Associate) in the state of California
Preferred qualifications, certified as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC), a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in the state of California
At least one year of experience as a clinician with strong professional references attesting to high degree of clinical sophistication.
Current First Aid and CPR Certifications.
Current TB Clearance
This job operates in a residential treatment facility setting. This role requires regular walking to various locations around the residential treatment facility. This role also routinely comes into contact with clients who may have contagious illnesses.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position requires standing, walking, and bending. The employee may be required to lift and/or move items over 20 pounds.
No travel is expected for this position.
