Job Description
Position: Grant Writer I / Technical Writer Department: Administration
Hourly/Salary: Salaried Reports to: Grant Development Manager
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Grant Writer shall work with the diverse departments of the Suquamish Tribe to develop grant proposals for new and existing programs. The Technical Writer position is responsible for completion of written documents in a timely manner to communicate technical business requirements for Suquamish Tribal departments as directed by Tribal Council. In this capacity, the Technical Writer works under the supervision of Legal, Finance and Tribal Administration.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directs the preparation of grants, contracts and other fundraising projects to support departmental programs and services.
Research, cultivate and solicit governmental, corporate and foundation funding sources. Coordinate inter-department/program teams in developing programs and grant applications. Develop and implement fundraising strategies to diversify Tribal funding base.
Research, interview and prepare appropriate technical documents (policies, procedures, instruction manuals, etc.) for Suquamish Department Directors review per set schedule.
Edit and revise technical documents with appropriate input and as required to meet business needs within set time schedule.
Work closely with Suquamish Department Directors and staff to ensure accurate representation of work.
Create and maintain clear and accurate hard copy and electronic grant files.
Represents Suquamish Grants department to external funders in a positive manner.
Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Demonstrated ability to successfully prepare, submit and receive complex and competitive grant, contract and foundation awards.
Demonstrated ability to prepare written documents that present technical information in usable
language for Suquamish departments and leadership.
Demonstrated ability to review, prepare and modify budgets. Ability to work independently and as a team player.
Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously and meet established deadlines. Knowledge of
Indian Country.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors of Arts and/or Science degree in a related field or equivalent grant-writing experience, both governmental and private (Tribal experience a plus)
- Experience with budget preparation
- Demonstrated ability to use Federal Register and other federal, state, local and private funding guidelines
- Superior writing and communication skills
- Program development experience a plus.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $54,000.00 per year
