Job Description

Job Summary
This position requires mastery of project evaluation and decision making within set guidelines on how to proceed with quoting the project including the use of appropriate software and systems. This individual will exhibit superior product knowledge which has been acquired through time and experience and is capable of either answering customer service questions and / or knows where to find product information to handle the majority of their customer’s requests without assistance. The work of the Design Estimator is mainly independent with minimal supervision from the department supervisor. This includes the capability to manage their work schedule based on the requests of customers and completing scheduled projects on time and accurately. This position requires the capability to independently make judgment calls under duress that are consistently in line with company directives.MAJOR JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (List in order of importance)

  • Evaluates complex projects and decides within set guidelines how to proceed with quoting the project.
  • Prepares price quotes for the customer.
  • Answers all calls from customers (internal and external) inquiring about product technical data, price quotes and availability.
  • Documents prices quoted over the phone.
  • Schedules and coordinates completion of proposal drawings.
  • Prepares and compiles final presentation packages for delivery
  • Researches and obtains special pricing and details for custom items when required utilizing all resources available.
  • Coordinates entire quote package, reviewing quote requests, interpreting customer requirements (both internal and external) to ensure that the customer’s requirements are met before final quote and drawings are turned over to the customer.
  • Schedules and coordinates installation and fabrication drawings.
  • Reconciles the quotes to match purchase orders by way of add/delete sheet and changing quotes.
  • Submits completed file to Project Coordinator and relays complete job requirements to ensure order accuracy.
  • Maintains files for CAD drawings and quotes.
  • Participates in product training opportunities to establish a strong understanding of all products sold.
  • Adherence to departmental systems and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Training, Experience and Certifications)

  • High school diploma required
  • Three or more years related experience required
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Suites

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Those necessary to perform the job competently)

  • Mathematical skills
  • Ability to read and understand detailed architectural drawings
  • Time management and organizational skills.

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL EFFORT (Under Typical Positions)
Typically works in an office environment with adequate lighting and ventilation and a normal range of temperature and noise level.
Work assignments are diversified. Examples of past precedent are used to resolve work problems. New alternatives may be developed to resolve problems.
A frequent volume of work and deadlines impose strain on routine basis.
Minimal physical effort is required. Work is mostly sedentary but does require walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting or carrying objects that typically weigh less than 10 lbs.
