The City of Ankeny is accepting applications for full-time Firefighter EMT/Paramedics. Preference will be given to those who are currently a Paramedic or enrolled in Paramedic school.
Applications are being accepted that will establish a Civil Service eligibility list for full-time Firefighter EMT/Paramedics. The city intends to establish this list for any current openings and openings that may occur within the next 12 months.
Written and physical ability evaluations are required for all positions. Information packets shall be emailed to qualified applicants explaining the written and physical fitness evaluation process and applicable dates for completing each process.
Successful completion of post-offer criminal background screening, drug test, psychological and medical physical required. Excellent wage and benefit package. Work schedule is a 24 hour on/48 hour off rotation averaging 2912 hours per year.
Starting hourly pay is: Firefighter/EMT: $16.808 Firefighter/Paramedic: $18.886
Firefighter/Paramedic (3+ years full-time experience): $19.830
Starting salary is $48,994.00 - $57,745.00, depending on qualifications.

Responds to emergencies and performs pre-hospital care, fire suppression activities, rescue, damage control, and property preservation.
Entry Requirements and Skills- Minimum 18 years of age
- Valid driver's license issued by a state licensing agency
- Valid EMT Certification (Iowa or NREMT certification)/or Paramedic
- Fire Fighter I certification (IFSTB or any IFSAC approved training program)
- CPR Certification - Current AHA, ASHI: Healthcare Provider or American Red Cross: Professional Rescuer Certification

- Firefighting and emergency response tasks can be very difficult, and are physically and psychologically demanding.
