POSITION SUMMARY: A Formulation Chemist participates in the development of novel nutraceutical and pharmaceutical formulations, performance of analytical characterization, and related record keeping. With minimal supervision, the Formulation Chemist will work with Scientists to assist in sponsored tasks towards the completion of projects, in addition to working on internal programs. This position reports to Sante Lab’s Senior Scientists.
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for keeping the laboratory and manufacturing areas clean, organized, and ensuring all the instruments and equipment are calibrated and functioning properly
  • Maintaining inventory of chemicals, reagents and other laboratory and manufacturing supplies
  • Independent interaction with equipment/supply vendors, customer service agents, and program sponsors
  • Participating in company meetings and planning sessions
  • Read literature applicable to research areas as required
  • Read and interpret compendial monographs and procedures (USP, EP, etc.)
  • Operate laboratory instruments including zeta sizer, Karl Fischer titrator, pH meter, etc.
  • Read and record instrument data, tabulate data, and keep detailed laboratory records
  • Assist scientists in supervision of Research Assistants
  • Assist scientists by performing various investigative procedures and operating a variety of instruments and other scientific equipment
  • Assist in drafting standard operating procedures (SOPs) for basic operation of laboratory equipment, report summaries of work performed, and prepare presentations
  • Maintain a notebook using good documentation practices
  • Comply with applicable regulatory and Quality System requirements
  • Report any illness, health or quality concerns to management
  • Maintain personal hygiene and cleanliness as per Sante Labs requirements
  • Perform procedures only after adequate training

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 2-year degree/certificate with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience and/or equivalent training

  • Industry experience includes: working in a regulated environment (e.g. FDA), drug formulations lab, biotech or food manufacturing, performing cell culture studies, and working with nanoparticles a plus
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team
  • Self-starter, resourceful, flexible, responsive, detail oriented and possess a good work ethic
  • Must possess excellent attention to detail, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to draft and maintain accurate and detailed records of work performed
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs or more
  • Adequate vision (corrected or uncorrected) to read fine instruments such as caliper, instrument displays, etc. and perform visual inspections for defects
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Productivity Software (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc)

PREFRRED SKILLS

  • CBD Industry experienced or with other botanicals highly preferred, but not required
  • Fluent in English. Fluency in Spanish helpful, but not required

WORKING CONDITIONS
This position requires heavy lifting (25 lbs. or more), exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals and active pharmaceutical ingredientsMay require periodic evening, weekend and holiday work, as necessary, to meet company deadlines

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
