Job Description

Please read the entire post before applying. Enlist as a Soldier into the United States Army and become a Food Service. The Food Service is primarily responsible for the preparation and service of meals both in field and garrison food service operations. Soldiers in this military occupational specialty (MOS) 92G prepare all types of food according to standard and dietetic recipes, as well as ordering and inspecting food supplies and preparing meats for cooking. This is NOT a civilian contractor position. No experience necessary. Position is an entry-level career.

Future Civilian Careers

The skills will you learn as a Food Service Specialist will help prepare you for a future with civilian cafes, restaurants, cafeterias, hotels, hospitals, manufacturing plants, schools and other organizations that have their own dining facilities. Depending on which specialty you pursue, you’ll be able to pursue a career as a cook, chef, meat cutter, butcher or baker.

Job Duties

  • Bake, fry, braise, boil, simmer, steam and sauté as prescribed by US Army recipes
  • Operate, maintain and clean field kitchen equipment
  • Perform preventive maintenance on garrison and field kitchen equipment

Full Paid Training and benefits

  • 10 weeks of Basic Training
  • 9 weeks of Advanced Individual Training with on-the-job instructions. Part of this time is spent in the classroom and part in the field, including practice in food preparation.

Some of the skills you will learn are:

  • Standard and dietetic menus and recipes
  • Preparation and cooking of various foodstuffs and bakery products
  • Food and supply ordering
  • Storage of meats, poultry and other perishable items

Those interested in this job may be eligible for civilian employment, after the Army, by enrolling in the Army PAYS program. Minimum requirements

  • Be between 17-34 years old. (Exceptions may apply, case by case until 38 years old only.)
  • No felonies.
  • Have good health.
  • Current High School Senior, High school graduate, GED, equivalent in your country of origin or higher.
  • Be permanent resident or US citizen. (Only) Note: If you are permanent residents, you will not qualify for some jobs that requires to have security clearances.
  • You must meet physical standards based on gender and age, height and weight or BMI.
  • No tattoos in neck face or hands. (Exceptions may apply, case by case.)
  • Those who want to serve must first take the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery), a series of tests that helps you better understand your strengths and identify which Army jobs are best for you.
