FOOD SERVICE COOK I (Culinary Specialist)

Part-Time 20-Hours per week - Pay Rate - $18.00-20:00 per hour (DOE) with opportunity for increase after 30-day satisfactory performance.

Generous paid vacation and personal leave included.

Position Summary:

You will join as a team member of the Dining with Dignity program. As a Culinary Specialist, you will lead in preparing two dinners and two breakfasts weekly for up to 150-200 servings for each meal period. Prepared food is developed into take-out type meals Your will also be responsible for organizing food and supplies, planning and preparing meals, serving meals when necessary, and maintaining work areas, equipment and appliances in a safe and sanitary condition. Six meal periods are prepared and served each week, Monday through Thursday.

OUR STORY
The Dining With dignity program was established in 1994 as a meal program to benefit the poor and homeless population as an effort to reduce food insecurity in the downtown neighborhood. Shalom provides thousands of free meals each month.

· Ensure that menus meet balanced nutritious standards

· Punctual and dependable

· Adherence to the efficiency and quality of the operations

· Good interpersonal communication skills

· Maintain sanitation, & health standards

· Personal hygiene and appropriate dress, a must

Preferred Skills

  • Ability to recognize and apply de-escalation skills when necessary
  • Creativity in impromptu problem solving
  • Able to work independently and use good collaboration skills
  • Passionate about access to nutritious food as a key to social justice strategy

Qualifications

  • One or more years’ cooking experience.
  • Able to lift 25lbs and upon occasion up to 50lbs
  • Comfortable reaching, bending, standing, and/or kneeling repeatedly
  • Compliance with food safety and sanitation rules
  • Pass a background check
  • Current COVID-19 vaccination or compliance within 30 days of employment
  • Food Worker Card within 30 days of employment
  • Picture Identification, Social Security Verification
