Providence is calling a Food Service Assistant 2 to the Cafeteria at Providence Saint Vincent Medical Center in Portland, Oregon. This is a part-time (0.8 FTE), benefited, overnight shift position. Hours will be between 8:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m. with rotating days.
We are seeking a Food Service Assistant 2 who will provide a high level of customer service for patients, family members, volunteers, physicians and staff. The Service Excellence Standards of Behavior guidelines must be adhered to at all times. Must have comprehensive knowledge of, and be compliant with, specified regulatory requirements, and food safety and sanitation regulations for food service in a health care environment. Proper sanitation procedures and practices must be following to assure the cleanliness and sanitation of ware-washing, service-ware, equipment in the work area
Adhere to County/State Health department, hospital, and department standards, policies and procedures at all times.
Prepare foods requiring little or no cooking for patient and non-patient dining. Items include salads, sandwiches, cold desserts, appetizers and garnishes. Produces, portions and stocks preset food items according to established par levels and recipes. Prepares foods using recipes, department standards, and knowledge of food handling techniques
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

- Interact and have interpersonal relations with the public, fellow employees, supervisors, and other department employees are positive/professional at all time, regardless of situation
- Report to work as scheduled and on time per hospital policy
- Maintain confidentiality of all information per policy
- Support and contribute to effective safety and risk management efforts by adhering to policies and procedures, maintaining a safe environment, promoting accident prevention, and identifying and reporting potential liabilities
- Seek ways to improve quality of service provided and shares ideas with management
- Ability to work on their feet for a majority of the work day; and to be highly mobile
- Perform all other assignments as directed by the manager or supervisor
- Comply with Providence Health & Services, and departmental policies and procedures
- Attend departmental meetings and in-services per policy
- Perform physically demanding, repetitive duties for extended periods of time
- Perform duties requiring one to be highly mobile and work on your feet continuously while meeting time sensitive delivery standards and goals
Qualifications:
Required qualifications for this position includes:
- Valid County Health Department Food Handlers Certificate, -OR-
- Serv Safe Certification is required at the time of hire
- Serv Safe certification is recommended with in one (1) year of employment.
- Experience in working in a team environment with common goals
- Ability to communicate effectively with team and read recipes, menus, order tickets and food production records/guides
Preferred qualifications for this position includes:
- One (1) year experience in customer service, patient interactions, and food service
- Experience in Healthcare -OR- Dietary kitchen using therapeutic diets
- Six (6) months experience working on assembly line and delivering patient meal trays
