The physical heart of Rhee Brothers is our main distribution center in Hanover, MD. Our warehouse and transportation teams handle over 20,000 cases of dry, refrigerated and frozen products everyday. Food quality is paramount to our customers and we pride ourselves on the safety and cleanliness of our 230,000 square-foot warehouse. Rhee Bros is a third party food safety audited facility.
Job Title: Food Safety and Compliance Coordinator
Department: Sales & Marketing
Key Responsibilities
- Manages the companywide food safety plan and ensures quality, food safety, and regulatory compliance with current FDA, USDA, FSMA regulations, and changing guidelines
- Acts as an in-house subject matter expert on international, federal, state, and local regulations that impact our business to limit exposure to liability
- Collaborates with the Import Coordinator for product recalls, FDA holds, inspections, and rejection processes
- Supports internal sales department with guidelines around best practices for US accounts’ product compliance data management
- Acts as an advisor for Category Managers and vendors for accurate product labeling with FDA labeling requirements and company standards
- Conducts product packaging audits and provides recommendation/feedback on any discrepancies
- Ensures customer expectations are fully met and fulfilled
- Responsible for maintaining proper product permits
- Effectively communicates with internal (Import Coordinator, Category Managers, Inventory Planners) and external (FDA, US Customs, USDA, customs brokers, lab companies) parties
FSVP (Foreign Supplier Verification Program)
- Lead Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP)
- Creates and develops SOPs for the Foreign Supplier Verification Program
- Develops hazard analyses and takes appropriate actions, as necessary
- Audits for misbranding, takes appropriate corrective actions, and revises FSVP
- Evaluates foreign supplier’s performance, safety compliance, as well as their responsiveness in correcting their past compliance-related problems, as well as their efforts for minimizing and preventing hazard, including safety regulations, food safety, storage, and transportation.
- Handles product complaints, provides appropriate corrective solutions and alternatives
- Investigates cause(s) of adulteration and updates FSVPs
Skills and Qualifications
- HACCP Certified
- FSVP QI certified, or able to become certified
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Bilingual in English and Korean strongly preferred, but not required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Agricultural Science preferred
- Detail-oriented with experience in record keeping
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables)
