Food Microbiology Laboratory Manager

EMSL Analytical, Inc., one of the largest environmental testing firms in the United States, is currently seeking a Full Time Food Microbiology Laboratory Manager for its Cinnaminson, NJ location. The ideal candidate will be experienced in a commercial food microbiology testing laboratory setting. The position will be primarily responsible for supervising the food microbiology operation. The incumbent will be able to lead a group of trained analysts and technicians to ensure quality data, timely results, and compliance to ISO 17025 and internal standards. The contract testing laboratory environment is fast-paced and requires attention to detail, high-level organizational skills, and the ability to multitask. This job also requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Manage the daily operation of a contract food microbiology testing laboratory.
• Quantitative and Qualitative Analysis of food and food-related products to include: Aerobic Plate Count, Total Coliform / E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus , Yeast & Mold, Salmonella, Listeria, E. coli O157:H7.
• Confirmation analysis of presumptive and suspect isolates.
• Managing and conducting specialty projects as needed such as Shelf Life Studies, Challenge Studies, FDA Import Detention Projects and others as assigned.
• Laboratory organization, supply inventory, calibrations, authoring and revising SOPs/forms and cleaning and maintenance of laboratory equipment.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Microbiology, Biology, Food Science, or other Life Science discipline.
• Five plus years' previous food microbiology experience in a commercial or academic lab in a supervisory role is desired.
• Experience with VIDAS and matrix validations a plus.
• Experiencing training team members a plus.
• Must be able to work independently and with a team.
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced setting, multi-task, and prioritize assignments.
• Must have good communication, computer and organizational skills.
• Candidate must be able to distinguish colors in order to perform analysis.

Additional Information:
Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with weekend rotation schedule as needed or extra hours to meet business demands.
