Job Title: Flagship Core Teacher
POSITION SUMMARY
Provides afterschool opportunities for youth in eight Missoula County Public Schools from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Under the umbrella of the Western Montana Mental Health Center, Flagship offers a school-based program in mentoring and skill building. Our program focuses on four core components: academic achievement, health and wellness, art and culture, and pro-social development. Enrollment in Flagship afterschool programs is open to all youth at the following schools:
Flagship Core is an afterschool engagement strategy geared towards supporting youth at CS Porter Middle and Franklin and Hawthorne Elementary Schools. Flagship Core will work with the same children, five days a week in an afterschool intervention that provides academic and behavioral support and enrichment opportunities with community partners.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teach students individually or in small groups. Target instruction to increase skills and strategies in reading, mathematics, and organization/study skills.
- Develop and present specific lesson plans, using a variety of instructional approaches to meet diverse learning needs.
- Monitor, assist, and evaluate student growth and performance.
- Maintain order in the classroom and employ MBI strategies and consequences to achieve proper behavior.
- Coordinates with Flagship Youth Development Coordinator, MTSS Tier 2 Team and community partners to provide appropriate afterschool interventions.
- Recruit, hire, and supervise Flagship Core Co-Facilitators.
- Counsel students when academic difficulties or behavioral problems arise.
- Keep records of academic performance, attendance, and social acclimation
- Communicate with parents and guardians on a regular basis.
- Work with community partners to provide afterschool enrichment activities.
- Develop and implement project based learning activities for students that support school day learning.
- Report cases of suspected child abuse according to state law.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional training seminars, and workshops.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Valid Montana Teaching License
- Experience working with children (ages 5-18 is preferred)
- Experience in the implementation of reading and math interventions preferred.
- Knowledge and training in the administration of STAR 360 preferred.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Completion of CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) training provided
- Ability to pass background check and driver’s license check upon offer of employment.
- Provide proof of auto liability insurance coverage per Western’s policies.
- Current and valid driver’s license with good driving record if required to transport clients while on work duty
- Valid Montana Teaching License
