Your timing could not be better. We are currently hiring to fill a key First Article Assembler position at our Indianapolis, IN, location.

Education: High school graduate and some college preferred.

Experience: Minimum of one year experience with knowledge of Bill of Materials, Component Specifications, Assembly Specifications, Assembly drawings and assembly of turnkey products and experience building First Articles. Experience with inspection and quality in a manufacturing environment is preferred. Must be able to correctly interpret Assembly Instructions (internal and external), Inspection Instructions and Specifications. Must be experienced with Non-conforming materials management. Experience with ISO Processes.

Software/Applications: Windows, Microsoft Office, Bartender and barcode system experience helpful

Job Scope: Must be detailed oriented and follow established ISO Procedures and Work Instructions. Evaluate assembly instructions for clarity and accuracy and prepare first articles accurately based on the assembly instructions. Communicate with the account manager, quality and production leads on the assembly of the first articles. Must be able to multi-task, stay focused, operate under pressure, and work independently and as part of a team in a fast paced environment. Excellent communications skills are needed to effectively work with Account Management, Production, Warehouse, Quality and other internal departments in order to fully support the requirements. Train staff members as needed.

Reports to: Production Supervisor

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Process incoming orders that require First Article ? One day in advance following Switch Board due date for order. Complete First Article accurately using Assembly Instruction and CAD drawings as required for the customer
  • Review of assembly instructions, components and pick-list and preparing of the first articles.
  • Coordinating the label requirements with Label Printing for the first articles.
  • Follow Assembly procedures and work instruction as applicable
  • Report missing items or incorrect Assembly Instructions.
  • Evaluate first article assembly and communicate any challenges and recommend any process improvements
  • Maintain process discipline and accurate reporting of data.
  • Communicate with Account Managers, Production, ESD room and Warehouse personnel regarding planning and problem resolution.
  • Interface with account management and document control regarding documentation for each order.
  • Inform Account Management of order receipt, when any delay or issue on building First Article.
  • Minimize waste of any resource and rework.
  • Maintain accurate filing of the Assembly Instruction binders in an orderly manner that can be retrieved easily
  • Evaluate non-conforming materials during and after production.
  • Support Production and other departments when needed
  • Communicates well with peers, superiors, as well as others in the company.
  • Keep the department neat, clean and organized at all times.
  • Follow company policies and safety procedures.
  • Perform daily tasks with considerations of waste minimization, and other environmental considerations
  • Adhere to the environmental policy and be aware of significant environmental impacts related to job
  • Support the Environmental Management System (EMS) implementation as directed by the supervisor
  • Inform the supervisor regarding any accidents or nonconformities that may affect the environment and, if possible, report any environmental nonconformity using the CAPA system
  • Provide suggestions for improving the EMS to the supervisor, management or by using the suggestion box
  • Other tasks and special projects as required.


Physical Requirements:

Requires ability to move freely throughout the facility (may include walking up and down stairs, through tight or congested areas, as well as up or down ladders), ability to lift, pull and push up to 30 lbs., ability to stand for 7 to 8 hours, verify, by sight, accuracy of product and paperwork, and ability to work with mathematical statistics.
