INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this position description is to define the requirements, reporting relationships, authority, duties and responsibilities, and measures of performance for the functional position of a Fire Alarm Inspector at Cana Communications.
- The primary function of a Fire Alarm Inspector Assistant is to provide the necessary assistance for planning, organization, direction and control in order to meet or exceed the Company s objectives. This is accomplished through effective time management; the establishment of strong relationships within the Company and within the industry; and the development and implementation of the proper utilization of company provided resources in conjunction with following the company s policies and procedures.
- The Fire Alarm Inspector Assistant is tasked with meeting and exceeding customer needs and requirements, assisting the Fire Alarm Inspector with inspecting buildings to locate hazardous conditions and fire code violations, and producing quality installation and service on schedule and within estimated hours.
- The Fire Alarm Inspector Assistant is also tasked with establishing and maintaining good working relationships between co-workers, customers, and suppliers.
Education
- Required: High School Diploma or GED
- Preferred: Post-Secondary Education
Preferred: Verifiable Certifications
- OSHA 10 Certified
- Nicet Level 1 Certified
- Inspector's Boot Camp Certification
Experience
- Required: 1 to 2 years relevant construction related experience.
- Preferred: 1 to 2 years relevant construction related helper experience or inspection assistant experience of fire alarm systems.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Relevant and current industry and technical knowledge concerning products, materials and equipment
- Basic knowledge of AD/DC circuitry, associated with low voltage systems.
- Troubleshooting: assist with determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it; repairing equipment or systems using the needed tools.
- Time Management: managing one s own time and the time of others. Reading Comprehension: understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
- Self-starter and team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences; ability to convey information clearly and concisely through spoken words and sentences.
- Ability to read, write, and understand information and ideas; ability to arrange tasks or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules; able to compute/calculate required mathematical equations.
- Able to stand for long periods of time (up to ten hours); able to lift and carry a twelve- foot ladder and able to perform work from a ladder; able to operate a power jack and fork lift and able to lift up to 70 pounds manually.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Must be able to work under the elements of a construction site.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
- The Fire Alarm Inspector Assistant is hired by the Service Manager and is directly responsible to the Service Manager.
- All staff assigned to projects under the Fire Alarm Inspector Assistant report directly to this position within the established organizational structure.
AUTHORITY and RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Fire Alarm Inspector Assistant is granted sufficient authority by the Service Manager to accomplish all of the duties and responsibilities that are established for this position, to include, but not limited to, the following;
- Establish and maintain excellent relationships with customers and their staff.
- Establish responsibilities and accountabilities for all staff assigned to report directly to this position within a project or inspection.
- Conduct inspections and acceptable testing of fire protection systems. Inspect and test fire protection and/or fire detection systems to verify that such systems are installed in accordance with appropriate laws, codes, ordinances, regulations, and standards.
- Provide assistance in performing assigned tasks for fire life safety system services; Assists in responding to service calls (emergency and on-site).
- Provide needed assistance with troubleshooting techniques and performs minor repairs as directed; Assists and observes installing new fire life safety systems and wiring techniques.
- Provide assistance in troubleshooting electronics system circuits, using standard test equipment, and analyze results to evaluate performance and determine the need for adjustment.
- Provide assistance with adjusting and replacing defective or improperly functioning circuitry and electronics components using hand tools.
- Maintaining a team-based work environment and strong relationships with fellow employees.

- Keep the Fire Alarm Inspector abreast of successes progress, potential problems and implements appropriate solutions for those problems.

The Fire Alarm Inspector Assistant will be deemed to be performing in a satisfactory manner when the following occurs;
- Ensure all equipment on site is properly tested and inspected in accordance with appropriate laws, codes, ordinances, regulations, and standards.
