Pain Specialists of America (“PSA”) is a portfolio company of private equity firm, CommonView Capital (“CVC”). Based in Austin, PSA is a physician practice of 15 physicians in 18 offices and 2 ambulatory surgical centers (“ASCs”) along the I-35 corridor from San Antonio to Fort Worth with approximately 200 employees. PSA was created through the merger of two of the largest interventional pain management practices in the state of Texas, Central Texas Pain Center and Pain Specialists of Austin.

Reporting directly to the VP, Finance, the Financial Analyst will work closely with PSA’s Executive Team and talented staff to implement strategic processes to support the firm’s continued growth. The Financial Analyst is a junior position, however, a successful analyst will also be considered for future roles within CVC, the general partner, and at other portfolio companies. This position combines clinical healthcare finance/operational experience and deal execution. The Financial Analyst will facilitate the identification and execution of actionable items that are critical to PSA’s growth.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform data analytics on business intelligence platforms like Power Bi. Must possess the ability to design and develop reports to analyze data in meaningful ways to disseminate among the Executive Team
  • Analyze operational metrics, location financials, and operational metrics to drive margin and process improvements
  • Deliver follow-up summaries, recommend action steps based on analysis and execute action steps relating to operational, clinical, and financial initiatives
  • Lead the execution of key strategic initiatives and establish data-driven, fact-based presentations for critical issues
  • Attend meetings with, and on the behalf of the Executive Team, as requested; develop action items and follow-up with stakeholders on key initiatives to ensure progress continues on all assigned workstreams.
  • Participate in the identification, design, development, and implementation of assigned projects, including acquisition opportunities
  • Analyze, synthesize, and manage data provided by project teams and functional areas to efficiently deliver information to Executive Team to streamline decision-making processes
  • Deliver high-impact solutions to the Executive Team by identifying key issues, defining appropriate work structures, and executive steps to affect change
  • Communicate with executive stakeholders, including extensive contact with general partners, lenders, intermediaries, and PSA staff, with a high level of sensitivity, diplomacy, and professionalism
  • Over time, serve as a thoughtful partner and “utility hitter” to the Executive Team regarding PSA’s strategies, staffing, and all other key aspects of the business

. Requirements:

The ideal candidate would have extensive financial modeling experience, such as investment banking, and extensive exposure to physician practices within the healthcare sector. Other profiles under consideration would be 2-5 years of work experience including some combination of the following"

  • Accounting
  • Consulting
  • Finance/Operations experience, preferable in a healthcare environment
  • Investment banking

A successful financial analyst will have a flexible skill set which includes advanced Excel technical abilities, a “whatever it takes” attitude, a hunger to learn, interest in digging deeper to a granular level to solve operational problems, and maturity to lead under stressful conditions. Due to the substantial pipeline of new acquisition opportunities, a successful analyst role would expand beyond internal operations and would include participating in deal due diligence and execution as managed by the private equity owner, CVC. A successful analyst will receive preferred consideration for future job openings within CVC. Healthcare and physician practice industry experience is preferred but not mandatory. Like the rest of the Executive Team, the analyst will be expected to be available when needed to meet critical deadlines. During the COVID crisis, this candidate will work from home and would likely continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Some travel may be required for the role once the COVID crisis has passed.

A modeling test and case study will be part of the interview process.
