Job Responsibilities
This position will reside in the Project and Financial Controls organization and provide financial analysis and reporting support for the Engineering and Construction departments, which includes preparation of the annual capital budget, quarterly reforecast, monthly financial reporting and analysis, and rate case support.
This position will work closely with the Engineering and Construction department leaders to ensure business targets are met, prudent and proper financial budget tracking and reporting, review and analyze financial budget trends and variances, provide explanations of variances, monitor commissioning of assets, develop financial comparisons and forecasts, support regulatory filings, commitments, requests, and reporting, etc.
This is a highly analytical position, which involves the compilation, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of complex financial information. It requires attention to detail, a high-level of accuracy, and coordination with leaders across the Southern Company Gas enterprise.
Please note, this positon is a hybrid model and can either be in Atlanta, Georgia or Naperville, Illinois. Travel to Naperville is required for this position. Currently all roles require our employees to have the ability to report to and work on-site for some portion of the typical work week. Functional Expertise:
- Prepares annual capital budget, quarterly reforecasts, and monthly financial reporting, variance analysis, and variance explanations
- Supports preparation and maintenance of the 10-year capital plan
- Creates monthly financial reports and visual presentation of financial data
- Provides ad-hoc financial reports and analysis; reviews and analyzes trends and variances; provides explanation of variances; researches expenditures; develops financial comparisons and forecasts
- Supports regulatory filings, commitments, requests, and reporting
- Supports financial system upgrade initiatives
- Develops, documents, and enforces procedures for capital budget planning, prioritizing, and reporting
- Provides backup support to Sr. Analyst, Business Support on the Project and Financial Controls team
Qualifications:
Education, Certifications/Licenses:
Required:
- BA/BS/BBA in Finance, Accounting, Business Management, Engineering, or related field
Preferred:
- AACE, CPA, CMA, CISA, CFE; or similar recognized organization
Related Work Experience:
Required:
- 2 – 5 years finance, accounting, audit, or project controls
- Experience in energy sector, especially natural gas/pipelines, natural gas storage, or process plant development
- Working knowledge of PeopleSoft Financials, Oracle ERP, PowerPlan, or UI Planner
Specific Skills & Knowledge:
Required:
- MS Office – advanced proficiency, especially Excel
- Advance knowledge of financial reporting, modeling, analysis, and forecasting
- Knowledge of accounting fundamentals and audit concepts, practices, and procedures
- Effective planning and organizational
- Accounting concepts – intermediate proficiency
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate with all levels in the organization
- Ability to complete assignment with a high-level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to support multiple resources and adapt to changing priorities
- Potential for extended hours during critical activities
