Job Description
GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA) is seeking a Field Technician: in our Livonia, Michigan: office. Strong problem-solving skills, mechanical aptitude, professional and communication skills, ability to work independently and in team atmospheres, and a desire to learn multidisciplinary engineering-related skills are essential for this position.

As a Field Technician:, you will primarily work remotely at project locations with periodic office and training duties. Field activities may include the following wide variety of tasks including, but not limited to:
  • Subsurface investigations – soil and groundwater sampling and monitoring
  • Air monitoring – volatiles, mercury vapor, mold spores, lead and other metals, etc.
  • Asbestos surveys – sampling, condition assessment, and quantification of asbestos containing materials
  • Building materials – sample collection of other building materials including concrete cores, paint chips, and other materials
  • Oversight – field monitoring of contractor activities including drilling, demolition, asbestos abatement, environmental cleaning, excavation, etc.
  • Misc. field inspections – field observations for a variety of potential project types under the direction of the project manager/engineer

The successful candidate will receive training for all tasks to be performed and will work under the supervision of an experienced professional who is available to provide guidance and support. The successful candidate will be expected to adhere to GZA’s health and safety and corporate policies.

Key Responsibilities::
  • Perform field tasks, site reconnaissance, sampling, inspections, monitoring, and contractor observation.
  • Prepare field notes to document inspections, monitoring results, and observations reports.
  • Conduct field and equipment QA/QC tasks.
  • Track and maintain training, certifications, and licensures necessary to conduct work functions.

Qualifications::
  • At minimum an Associates Degree in Environmental Studies, Engineering Technology, and/or experience-based submissions will be considered.
  • 0 - 10 years relevant experience.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills and a professional attitude.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to prepare clear and concise field notes.
  • Strong computer skills including a solid foundation in MS Office applications and comfortable using field tablets for data entry as well as monitoring and measuring equipment.
  • Ability to travel at local and regional levels.
  • Surveying experience is a plus.
  • Construction experience is a plus.
  • 40 hour OSHA HAZWOPER and/or 10 hour OSHA construction training is a plus.
  • Other certifications including asbestos inspector, lead inspector, and similar are a plus.
