This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with applicants who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.

Role and responsibilities

We have an exciting opportunity for a Failure Analysis Technician – 2nd Shift in San Diego, Ca. This position, works under moderate supervision responsible for hands on installation, testing, and root cause failure analysis of complex laser system modules. Supports engineering activities such as design, test, check-out, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electro-mechanical systems, experimental design circuitry or specialized test equipment. Applications may include analog, digital and/or video circuits, and logic systems. Works from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform testing, checkout and trouble-shooting functions.Performs operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment.Assists in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions. Assists in the design, construction, test and check-out of test equipment. Uses manufacturing, test, development or diagnostic equipment, including, but not limited to, test programs oscilloscopes, signal generators and specialized test apparatus.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Tests Opto-mechanical assemblies in strict accordance with procedures.
  • Uses standardized tools and electric equipment (i.e., torque wrenches, electric and pneumatic screwdrivers and ball drivers) to perform mechanical assembly, testing, repair, and troubleshooting of opto-mechanical assemblies.
  • Enters data into company databases.
  • May collect and analyze data under descriptive instructions/guidance.
  • May recommend procedural improvements to management.
  • Writes FA reports.
  • Sets up diagnostic equipment according to general instructions.
  • Uses specialized test equipment and programs and common test equipment to execute and control testing throughout the FA process.
  • Occasionally works closely with engineers on FA testing of products. This includes developing test methodology, establishing test parameters and documenting procedures.May be required to independently develop test processes and protocol given the desired goal.
  • Performs installation, setup, calibration, and preventive maintenance on FA laser systems.
  • Troubleshoots, isolates, and documents problems in laboratory equipment.
  • Investigates the root-cause of issues and provides information to Engineers and Managers.
  • Performs laboratory maintenance, equipment tracking and maintenance, material ordering, and departmental safety and equipment tracking policy enforcement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and experience
  • Requires a minimum of 3 to 7 years of experience.
  • An Associate’s Degree in a technical field or equivalent Trade School diploma is preferred.
  • Ability to use MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and electronic e-mail systems.
  • Ability to use tools and equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, voltage and current probes, multi-meters, chart recorders.
  • Ability to use critical thinking to debug laser system errors and resolve unforeseen problems.
  • Knowledge of computer systems, networking, and software.
  • Ability to use logic to troubleshoot laser modules and determine root cause of failure.
  • Flexibility to work overtime and off-shift hours to support company requirements.
  • Experience working with precision optical components desirable.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret work instructions, engineering specifications, and engineering sketches.
  • Proven abilities to troubleshoot and identify problems in complex systems.
  • Understanding of laser systems/optical theory is desired.
  • Prior experience with electronics and electromechanical troubleshooting is a plus.
  • Ability to read schematics and troubleshoot to component level is a big plus.
  • Previous Electrical & Mechanical troubleshooting experience highly desired.
  • Must be able to unload trucks via forklift and pallet jack.
  • Ability to work with hand and power tools (screwdrivers, wrenches, drill, hammer, etc.)
