Job Description

The Facilities Technician I is part of a team responsible for maintaining the facility, equipment, and instruments to ensure it operates as required. This role will be expected to support equipment moves, room and area set ups along with any operational changes that need to occur. The Facilities Technician I will also be responsible for routine maintenance activities and may represent the Facilities and Engineering department on project teams. This role will work under general supervision and will require a certain degree of creativity and latitude to work on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations and/or data is needed. The Facilities Technician I will exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. This role will be responsible for some internal and some external contacts.


The Role:

  • Provide hands on maintenance, repair, and support to best meet business needs.
  • Assist in mechanical service calls and in-house repairs throughout the facility and grounds.
  • Schedule work activities with operations staff to minimize impact to production activities.
  • Participate in new equipment start-up to ensure it meets all operational requirements.
  • Recommend parts and supply purchases for equipment.
  • Offer suggestions for correcting problems and for improving operations.
  • Work closely with various departments to support activities as needed.
  • Contribute to projects beyond general responsibilities.
  • Attention to detail to ensure that all jobs are completed in an exemplary manner and any potential hazards or warning signs of problems are not overlooked.
  • Self-motivated, works well independently and as a team player.
  • Complete paperwork and projects in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Interpersonal skills to interact with employees or residents of the building in a pleasant manner.
  • May support on-call response by maintaining a cell phone while on-call.
  • Assist in the development, revision and updating of Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Visibly support and lead adherence to Catalent Houston safety procedures, practices and Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMPs).
  • Ability to perform tasks in clean rooms where full gowning is required.
  • Keep all training records current.
  • Reliable in attendance and willing to work late or come in on short notice as required and/or needed.
  • Physical stamina to handle extended hours of being active and working on the building.
  • Able to lift 40lbs, work on ladders and stepstools.
  • Other duties as assigned.


The Candidate:

  • Highschool or GED + 1-year OJT
  • Demonstrate abilities in mechanical/electrical repairs and maintenance.
  • Requires basic math and computer skills (WORD, EXCEL).
  • Familiar with building automation (BAS) and/or environmental monitoring (EMS) systems.
  • Must be able to clearly communicate in English (verbal, written).
