The UIC Office of the Associate Chancellor and Vice Provost for Diversity seeks a cinematographer for a temporary position (up to 900 hours) to create media for the Inclusive Classroom Initiative (ICI) and Higher Learning Commission (HLC) Initiative under a partnership between the Office of Diversity and the UIC Center for the Advancement of Teaching Excellence (CATE).
These Initiatives consist of a series of modules developed by faculty content experts on topics that are relevant and specific to UIC. Each module focuses on building empathy, creating relevance and providing practical strategies faculty can use in their classrooms regardless of academic disciplines.
The cinematographer will work on a small team with the Art Director to bring to life specific themes for various e-learning modules.
Duties:This position will be responsible for the development of media, including talking-head interview style videos as well as capturing b-roll footage (of campus scenes, both inside and outside).
The cinematographer will also be responsible for video editing, including but not limited to music selection and adding elements of typography.
Qualifications: Minimum Acceptable Qualifications1. Bachelor’s degree in film/video production, cinematography, radio and television, documentary film production, photojournalism, communications, graphic design, or a closely related field to the position.2. One (1) year (12 months) of professional work experience in areas including non-linear video editing, motion graphics, video lighting and composition, camera operation, graphics design, audio recording, video production, or a closely related professional area.
Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position, may be required.
Master’s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of work experience.
Preferred Experience and Qualifications
A successful candidate will:
have 2-5 years of work experience or a strong academic portfolio
have a strong background and knowledge of video editing
have a strong understanding of following brand guidelines
have storyboarding and/or editing experience
have great attention to detail
have the ability to tell a compelling story
be willing to work collaboratively and iterate with the Art Director on new content
have the ability to brainstorm/ideate visuals based on provided content
have an interest in and/or experience with content related to diversity, equity and inclusion
have a passion for and knowledge of psychology, sociology, and behavioral science concepts.
have strong organizational skills
be prompt and responsive to email
be available for team meetings during standard business hours
work at least 20 hours, up to 40 per week
